Everybody Have A Safe 4th of July Weekend 07-03-09

A fresh keg from the local brewery, a salmon bake/barbeque surrounded by other swimmers, the $300 in fireworks and seal bombs we just bought, and it's not gonna get dark. Veeeerrry nice times ahead!

Remember what we're celebrating, do what you can to help those who keep us free!

Hope ya feel better soon TB, I got some fun foodie p0rn coming up soon to cheer ya up. :)

It's something new I think sicne I couldnt find a recipe fro it, so I made one up.

My pics are uploading now. I hope I can do this before i have to go sleepy. I was drinking all day and am getting stooopid.

I'll be going to a small party/cookout at a friends, then probably hitting a bar and fireworks later on. Should be a good time, although aside from the fireworks, that's a pretty typical Saturday for me.

Drive safe everyone(or don't drive at all if you can avoid it). Cops are already out in abundance tonight. I saw 7 cars pulled over on 95 during my 20 minute drive back from Ft Lauderdale a little over an hour ago.

hey yall have a great 4th,,,be careful.I`m recovering from 2nd degree burns now and can say ,,,,,,do`nt screw up!

That sounds like a story... do tell...

And get well soon.

Happy 4th to all of you and I hope everyone stays safe. Hixs sorry to hear you're hurting, get well soon.

My 'hood goes all out for the fourth. Tables of chow, a keg or two and enough fireworks, they're legal here, to start celebrating two days ago, which we have been.

One of the neighbors fireworks show is sponsored by a local church so it's on a semi pro level. The rest of us get together and try to beat their show. It's all good.

Everyone have a safe and fun holiday weekend!!!! Mine will be spent drowning in beer!!! Did not have a chance to go get any fireworks this year, so we are goin to our friends place for a huge drunk party cook out!!!!

I'm in there AJ. I'll be posting late most likely. Smoker will be going in T-minus 1 hour from now. Then spending quality time with a Les Paul...changing strings but switching over to a top wrap on the tail piece and purteeng the gal up a bit. Maybe I'll post a pic of her too!

Cheers, TB.

No maybe, you gotta post a pic. I had my '79 Custom Silverburst stolen a little over a year ago that I still haven't replaced yet. Hopefully I can find one soon or I'm going to just go with a Custom Shop since I won't buy an old one without playing the exact one I'm buying.

TT...I could not in good conscience deny your request for a guitar pic or two and the additional opportunity to post whore.

Before..

Smell the mojo workin'.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

Nice. What year is that? Not a personal fan of P90's, but whatever works for you. My favorite PU combo on LPs is a JB in the bridge and a 59 or Jazz in the neck, although it's not too important since I rarely use anything but a bridge pickup. Totally agree with the speed knobs, I much prefer them to the top hats.

How are you liking having the strings wrapped around the bridge? I've heard it can increase sustain but never tried it personally.

The P90 to me is the monster of tone. I generally use the middle position and switch to the neck for the breaks. Rarely do I use the treble pup alone.

The top wrap increases the mojofication by a factor of 10! This guitar which weighs in just under ten pounds had excellent sustain and now with the top wrap I can hit a chord, set the guitar down and come back in two days and it's still ringing.
It does add a skosh more treble but not overly so. The string tension also has a looser feel and makes for easier bends. It's an added bonus because now my vibrato is just that much fatter.

Another 'thang I notice is when played through my tweed champ clone (Clark) plugged straight in no chaser and the volume in the sweet spot on 9, I can attain that most sought after of tonal ephemeral sounds known as "note bloom"...that is when the note is hit, the sound begins to decay normally but then increases and opens up and then decays. You'll know what it is when you hear it.

I'm diggin' the sound and feel so much that I will be top wrapping my V on the next string change. I use D'Addario 10-46's on all my electrics. Although I have a set of 10.5's on my R4 GT.
I rarely have tuning problems with them. Excellente'.

Cheers, TB.

SWEEEEEEEEET! Is the wrap around a bridge mod or is it something you can do with the existing bridge TB? I've played a LP with that setup, and you're right about the bloom. Excellent setup my friend.

I don't have a real LP, but I have a Tokai Love Rock, that's a Japanese knockoff. I flipped the magnet in the neck pickup ala Peter Green style, and while it now wails with the feedback at high volume, the tones it's capable of producing at practice volume make grown men weep! I just wish I had the skills to redo the wax potting and all to tame the feedback at higher volumes.

Sweet rig man. I need to play more, as I haven't really picked up a guitar in months. Somewhere between my senior year in college, meeting a girlfriend that I've now stuck with for 3 years, and entering the workplace... I just sorta lost the time to play. Plus most of my gear is in need of one integral piece of worke (ie. Input jack is broken on both my Fender and my Tokai) and I can't seem to get off my ass and pay someone to fix them.

Fivestar FAIL!

The Tokai's are great knockoff's much akin to the Ibanez "Lawsuit" copies, also good guitars.

The top wrap is easy as shown in the pics. No mod needed. When changing the strings, take the ball end from a dead removed string, cut it off and thread the new string through that from the bridge side and up and over the tail piece. Make sure the tailpiece is lowered all the way and flush with the guitar thus making more solid contact and improving sustain. You also want it as low as possible so that the lessened angle of attack from the stop tailpiece to the bridge is not so minimized that the strings pop out of the grooves on the bridge posts. Some people do change out the bridge and tail piece opting to go with TonePros or other more vintage correct. Alot of cats like aluminum. The Les Paul shown was my first LP bought in '79 used and presumably stolen but no way to find out. It is the best playing and sounding Les Paul I have ever heard. Thin 60's neck, heavy solid mahogany body. Definitely has a fatass like a '57 Chevy. My R4 is chunkier in the neck and lighter but also a great player. No need to change anything on that guitar as it already has a one piece wraparound tail piece. MONEY!

Funny you should mention the Greeny mod. I've thought about it but want a little more versatility out of my tone, whereas the Greeny mod is kind of a one trick pony..but what a trick it is indeed!

Dust off that Love Rock and get back to spankin' that plank. You'll be glad you did.

Cheers, TB.

Cool TB, I'll do this up whenever I get a little extra cash. Maybe even this payday.

The greeny mod is definitely a one trick pony, and the tone isn't for everyone. I find myself using the bridge pickup more often than the neck on the Tokai, just because the pickups aren't all that great and the neck is ungodly muddy more often than not. So with the greeny mod, it allowed me to enjoy my middle position more without the overwhelming mud of the neck. If you can pick up a cheaper LP copy or something as your Greeny axe, I'd highly reccomend it just for shits and giggles. There is a ton of tonal variation you can get just by adjusting the volume of the respective pickups. Lower the neck volume a few degrees, and all of a sudden you've quacky squawk and squank that sounds like you've got a duck in a headlock. The way single notes decay through a nicely pushed tube amp is damn amazing!

You're givin me the fever now. Hope I dont get that GAS all over again. My booze intake can't handle a competing interest.
