Greetings,

Now that the chilli babies are growing, it's time to show a little of the 2011 family. :)
Many strains this year, i wanted to try more diversity ^^. But i don't know yet what i'll do with all the chillies !
Seeds have been sown from mid-january to mid-february (except the manzanos, sown in october for a trial).

I've let the sweet peppers in the list even if it's not really the mood here ^^.
No nuclear peppers for now too, hehe.
Most hot peppers will go in pots, most sweet, light and medium peppers will go in ground (i've just moved to a new place, the soil is not prepared yet).
I'll keep just one plant per strain.

Looks great, got some great diversity of types there!!!

Will be interesting to see how the sweet types turn out....keep us posted, and as always keep the pics comeing...

Congrats on the selections some very tasty peppers there. Great idea on the growing the Super hots in pots. I have noticed the sweet/mild peppers love the ground more so. Enjoy your growing season.

The sundews are Drosera tokaiensis, next to there is another kind of carnivorous plant, Utricularia sandersonii, but no flowers on them yet, they totally cover the pot with little flowers.

On the far left of the first pic, these are sweet potatoes i try to germinate. ^^

And the 3 big plants are the manzano amarillo (sown in october), already flowering, but they would need to be repotted very soon.
There's some eggplant seedlings behind them too.
 
when your Sweet potatoes start growing ,if you place them in the bottom of a 55 gal drum or large trash can as the plants grow up wards you pile saw dust or compost around the stem they will grow to the top with potatoes the hole length of the stem, at the end of your growing season tip over the drum for a hole bunch of clean potatoes with no digging.
 
It looks like the window your plants are next to is giving them loads of light!

It makes me want to try the tip that works with potatoes, planting them near soil surface and putting a lot of straw on it (like half a meter).
 
Some news of the little chillies. :)
They are growing well. The annuums are a little bit leggy, but they stand tall.
I think i'm gonna repot the biggest ones this week, maybe putting them a little outside if it's hot enough (we had a few days over 20°C, but today it's rainy :/).

There's some lazy ones...
A few annuums sown at the same time as others around mid february: orange thaï, fish pepper and goat's weed. Maybe they should be sown a little before... anyone experienced that too ?
A few that took long time to germinate (seeds getting old surely): brazilian starfish and cubanelle.
The original seeds of the jamaican scotch bonnet didn't germinate after several tries(or i was not patient enough), so i've sown the seeds i've made last year but lately.
And the orange habanero that takes its time... (usual ?)

You can see on the second pic that the aji habanero is growing with yellow leaves, that slowly turn green (but not entirely), i don't know why, there was a thread from someone else experiencing the same thing with this strain, any idea on what's happening ?
 
Sorry for not giving news of my peppers this summer, i was a little busy...
But here is a few pics of the last season... before i start the new one. :)
I dont' post pics from plants in soil, because they didn't grew well and gave only few peppers, soil quality problem combined with weird climatic conditions (very dry year, specially spring, making it not easy to begin to grow in a clay soil). I'll see next year.

The orange thai looks like it was a good producer. How's the flavor of the Aji Habanero?

I hope you have some better weather this season! At least you can control the medium the plants can grow in by using containers.

I'm hoping we have an early spring..............for a change. In Chicago its usually cold and damp thru the month of April.

Orange thaï is a good producer, and nice ornemental too (you can see it in full bloom with ripe pods on it in the first september pic, in the bottom right corner), but its flavor has nothing special, i'm not using it a lot.
For the Aji habanero, it is fruity, not citrusy like the lemon drop but they share some kind of aroma, same kind of heat. Sorry i don't remember well, it's been a while i haven't eaten one.

Beginning with the sweet ones, Trinidad Perfume and Belize Sweet, both with great taste, the Belize Sweet is very fruity.

The plants are still alive (no frost yet), but in bad health, i made a last harvest mid-december.
Now it will soon be time to sow the new season. :)
