Ferrero's Super Hot Aquaponics Glog

Well I thought its about time I wrote a Glog so here it goes.

I've always loved chilli and have bought plants before mainly habs and birdseyes, I've tried starting some seeds last year but unfortunitly it was late winter and I had no luck, so after last years flop and this year I decided to give it a proper go and I know its just come into winter down here but I thought hey why not :D it'll be a good early start to the growing season.

So my mission was to throw something together with the stuff I already have sitting around the house or free from somewhere else... I knew I had an incubator but its to small for all the plants I wanted to start and the heating element is low wattage but hey I figured I could fit the lid with the working components onto something but what??

After Rattling my brain for a bit I visted a friend of mine and during the conversation I mentioned I wish that I hadn't thrown out my old fishtank because I could use it right about now, my mate then walked me around the corner of his shed and he said you can have this fishtank if you like. So now with a fishtank in hand I head home and scrounge around and find an old aquarium heater "brilliant"...

So I set the whole thing up and below is what it looks like in the end with a few other things I found

Growlist
Trinidad Scorps
Trinidad Choc Scorps
Trinidad BS
Trinidad Moruga
Trinidad Douglah
Cili gorongong
Naga Morich
Mixed unknown Superhots
Jimmy Nardello

Bastards eh fookin fruit fly they are crafty little shits, If the nets don't work when they show up I think I'm going to get a lighter out and burn down the backyard with a crazed grin on my face "I might add a few chuckles in aswell"

Matty very cool aquaponics setup you have, love the money shots … great luck in thirteen and I’ll enjoy reading & seeing your success! Dam fruit flies don’t sound like something I’d like to go thru with everything else I have to battle. Here’s to you winning dat war mon \o/

Cheers, sicman and Mudsta :)

I'll take some more pics tomorrow for some more viewing pleasure

I think I've figured out whats the brain strain and marouga and I definately have some naga morich but yea some pods I'm still unsure off/

LOL I had a little accident last night I brought in one chilli in out of the missus delicates bag and it was slightly unripe on its tail, I was going to take it into work for my boss the next day so I put it in a bag at the back of the counter which had banannas in it to hopefully help the ripening. Well low and behold my little boy can actually reach up the back of the counter now.. Yep you all are picking up on where this is going, unbeknown to myself and the missus my 2 year old boy got a hold of the chilli took a chomp "didn't actually take any of the flesh just peirced the skin of the chilli". He came out holding a bananna with red lips eyes watering and had a look like he was chocking and thats what me and the missus originally thought so I had him upsidedown whacking his back and it wasn't until I put him back upright nothing was stuck in his throat and thats when it clicked shit he had a bananna oh shit chilli. So the poor little fella was drinking milk for a few minutes and when he finally got his vocal chords back he was saying mum hooot hooot. So leason learn't put the chilli's up on top of the fridge where he won't be able to reach for ten years.. Felt so bad

hey ferrero,

really impressive AP setup you have there.. have you tried planting chilli trees in the ground as well to see the difference betweeen AP plants and soil? im thinking of starting up a micro aquaponics setup and putting a couple of chilli plants in just to see how it goes. how many chilli plants do you think you would put in to one of your IBC PB's if you were solely using it to grow chillis?
awesome setup, and interested in seeing some updated pics.. i love how productive aquaponics is.

Id guess nine max, eight around the outside (pruned to fit) & one in the middle to grow fully? and three in an "add on" like a bath tub, from this thread & its links ive spent days reading about this subject its very interesting, its not as easy as you may think.

Mezo.

cool glog: I just happened to see another neat aquaponics setup in a nursery last week. check this version out..Tilapia fish as fert creators.

Some states don`t allow you to farm Tilapia, that system is using the "float" method of Aquaponics, i know all this know.

Very interesting thread! I did aquaponics before, didnt work well for me. I guess i couldnt find the balance between fish waste and number of plants

Cheers Everyone.. And Mez you aquaponics guru ;)

Realistically 1 to 2 plants is more than plenty, I went way overboard which is ok but the plants are pretty compacted. I haven't grown to much in soil I have a lot of hard clay which for years I've been trying to break it down and mulch it up so maybe next year I could give it a good go. Aquaponics works the best with larger setups, you get less temp fluctuations and dependant on your water ph you can have a few issues with the fish crap/processing becomes toxic to the fish.

Anyway here are a few pics, I would have put them up earlier but its been a mad house here.

Are these just some pics from before or recent pics? that beer bottle is still sitting there.

The plant (with the beer bottle) how old is it? last years overwintered?

Mezo.

beautiful looking plants. That is a wonderful pepper jungle. I just want to dive in :onfire:

Thanks Sanarda, the only problem is jungle is getting harder and harder to spot the darn fruit fly that keep destroying pods.

Took them just a little while ago, that beer bottles definately overwintered, I started growing those plants the start of winter and they where pretty small when they went in the system which was the week prior to spring, Next season I'm only going to plant 5 out which I've been groing for a couple months now :)

Scratch is right thats why its growing so well.
