Finally proving what we've known all along

this was posted on Facebook:

Chili Compound Is Highly Toxic to Liver Cancer Cells: Capsaicin is the compound that gives chili peppers their intense spicy “heat.” And in this just-published study, researchers have discovered that capsaicin is highly lethal to liver cancer cells, killing up to 84% of them in vitro. Earlier research has also shown this super spice to be active against glioma, breast cancer, liver cancer, throat cancer and leukemia. Population studies have not yet linked eating chilies with reduced liver cancer risk, but one study out of India did show that those eating chilies regularly reduced their risk of leukemia by an amazing 60%. Chilies have been used in traditional and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries for many health benefits including pain relief, boosting metabolism, boosting the immune system, antibacterial, for weight loss, and many others. Science is now proving out many of these health benefits. For example, chilies may indeed help with weight loss by boosting metabolic rate as much as 25%, suppressing appetite, increasing fat burning and post-meal thermogenesis. And capsaicin is now being tested in multiple clinical trials, including for pain relief, weight loss (together with physical exercise) and for prostate cancer prevention using a dietary supplement.

Finally science is starting to prove what chili heads have believed all along, peppers ROCK!!!

I've always been interested in the weight loss aspect of it since I want to do pro bono work helping obese people. I think there is tons of potential.

If nothing else, I know it makes me eat less cause I'm on fire :P

Rocketman, thanks for starting this informative thread.

I experience painful (...is there any other kind of...) neuropathy. Consuming enough capsaicinoids to raise a light scalp-moistening sweat gives much relief. Apparently, this is because capsaicin stimulates endorphins. With chinense strains, there's more benefit than with annuums... in my case, anyway. Haven't explored Capsicum frutescens, baccatum or pubescens yet. The very different capsaicinoid profile of C. pubescens is probably worth exploring for comparison purposes.

In appreciation of how solemnly and decorously everyone has commented on this thread, i shall have to forgo singing a rousing rendition of "I'd Rather Have A Bottle In Front O' Me, Than Hafta Have A Frontal Lobotomy"...i wouldn't want to highjack the thread in my exuberance.

There is yet another benefit of chili-peppered vodka worth noting: I had a roommate who frequently guzzled my vodka... Chilis kept him away from it.
Thus, not only did my health benefit from them, they also saved his life!!
