First Frost / Freeze - Does it depress???

I make money off growing so you would think I have the added incentive to be depressed when I suddenly have no fresh pods to sell.  Add to that making refunds to folk who ordered before the freeze and I still had not got them out.  You would think I am depressed by last night's freeze.  But I am not.  Tell you the truth, after the second wave of pods show themselves I start thinking about the next years grow.  The first pods can be small and wonky, so its the second that really show what a plant will look like.

I am sitting here planning the grow for 2018 so I will know what to start now, what in december, and what later.  Depends on variety.  I am comparing LEDS for an upgrade.  I am waiting for that really cool moment when the first seeds break surface.  Now dont get me wrong, I am a slut for new (to me) peppers.  But all the tasting new stuff was over in August.

How about you?  Does this time of the year depress or excite you?

It's a mixed emotion for sure AJ!

It's certainly a sad feeling to pull up plants and discard a living thing especially when some of my plants never came back enough to produce mature pods. I was originally just planning on overwintering 5 or 6 plants, but after asking around, I found homes for about 10 more plants with friends/family/co-workers. (I'm sure some of them will overwater or let them succumb to aphids, but I guess they would have just frozen anyway.) So that makes me a little happier with some plants getting a second lease on life.

I'm looking forward to new varieties and my hail storm at least resulted in some truly gnarly trunks for bonchi. I have two that should keep me entertained enough. I have other little pet projects and some small batches of seeds already started. I wish peppers and I shared temperature preferences; it would make this hobby a lot easier.

Winter is my favorite season so I'm glad it's coming soon! Bring on the snow!

Excited that it is over. I have had enough.
My season's still going (for now), but it's just due to laziness at this point, lol. I've gotta admit 1010, after that big rain/wind storm we had the other night (50mph gusts), I had 5 gallon buckets blown all over my backyard. I was kinda bummed that all of them survived

I need a break. I've done the four-season gardening thing in the past, but now I look forward to being a winter vegetable. And, as you said, it's cool because I'm already thinking about next year. Just not doing.

All good things must come to an end, it's the same with the wildwood weed hot pepper season.

I some ways, I do not want it to end.

I still have quite of bit of work ahead of me making pepper flakes.

I’ll miss looking for new or ripening pods. Just waiting for the last of the season pods to ripen. Trying my hand at OW a plant. Now it’s hunting season. [emoji16]
