First Time Grower 2011

what to do?

first i would add more potting soil
to fill the beer cups full;
most of yours i have seen
look to be a little less than full(the lines at the top of the cup can be seen)
try a few adding more soil to the bottom and a little to the perimeter (to hide the lines)
to raise the soil volume up to full capacity
you may be 6 or 7 fluid ounces low of potential volume
if you put it under you can also see the root penetration
into each single cup (each plant's root condition) as you go.
after seeing a few you may decide to pot up or ? ( or that the nitwit is  )

they are quite pretty right now hope the weather changes in their favor soon

Thanks nitwit. I did decide to re-pot my bigger plants today, and I'm glad I did because the roots were starting to come through the holes at the bottom of the dixie cups. I think I officially hit the max limitations of my grow area. What do you think?

Well, I think I have hardened off the little guys fairly well now. I let them stay outside in 40-60 degree weather all day yesterday and they survived. Weather forecast looks very promising finally, so I think they are going to stay outside for good.

I'm officially down to 24 plants. I had to give 12 plants away to friends and co-workers due to lack of space. I have 2 unknowns that sprouted late in some soil that I re-used so they could be 1 of 3 plants (Red Savina, 7 Pod or scorp). I guess I'll just have to wait till they start fruiting. I've already had 4 plants that started to flower (2 7 Pods and 2 scorps), so I pinched them in hope that the plants will grow bigger. My Red fresnos are still in the grow room since they are not ready for the full sun yet, and I have one of my Red Savinas at work under my desk light. It's actually doing very well but not growing as fast as the rest. I will have to take a picture and post it next week.

Bhut Jolokia 3
Yellow Bhut 4

It's been a while, so I thought I would give an update of my plants. My biggest ones are about 13" tall by 11" wide. I've been pinching the buds for a couple of weeks now, however I've decided to just let them bud from now on (mainly because I want my first pepper so badly). I re-potted a lot of them due to the huge root balls (3 gal pots). I also switched my soil to 1/2 potting soil, 1/2 mushroom compost. As far as nutes, I'm giving them a weekly dose of 3/4 strength 8-8-8 mixed with full dose of Epsom salt solution. I'm also foliage feeding with 1/4 strength Epsom salt and tap water every night before bed. They seem to really like the foliage feeding. I'm still learning everyday, so if I'm doing something wrong, please tell me. I'm still anxious to see if the peppers I bought on eBay are what they say they are. If you can identify any of these plants, I'd like to know. The Red Fresnos came from some pods I had earlier so I know they are authentic. Either way, I am learning so much about growing, so next year will be better prepared. I find myself spending more time with the plants than my wife.
Here's some pepper porn of my progress.

Thanks! I'm not sure what the difference is other than I've had a fan on them 18 hours a day since they were infants. The stems are really getting thick.

I think the best thing I found that has been doing wonders is mild foliage feeding everyday before dark. When I wake up in the morning, the leaves point straight up almost like they are stretching.

My first pepper!! Woohoo!!

Wouldn't you know it, it's from one of my unknown plants. I guess I will know what is soon enough.

I have a super good pot supplier if you ever need one.

Oh yeah. Please tell! I want to eventually go with 5 gal pots because I don't plan on putting them in the ground. I just didn't want to pay that much for them. I like the ones Neil uses from The Hippy Seed Company.

I have ordered about 250 various size pots from them. All VERY good quality at very good prices. If you buy the bulk amounts, its even less expensive but either way it is good prices for the quality they have.
