First timer grow log

Howdy,

My name is Steve i live in Iowa, i have decided to try my hand at growing my favorite pepper this year and after reading many forums i decided to register here and post a pic to get some of you expert's input on my baby habs. This pic was taken today they were sowed 11 days ago, i have never attempted to grow peppers from seed so i am a complete newb and not sure what to look for as far as how things are goin so far. Thanks for any responses and take it easy.

Yeah, stil not believing this whole first timer thing... Those things are being grown by an expert.
Y thanks Mill ill take that as a compliment :P i guess i am iowan but thats all i got this is indeed my first try at growing any plant

Very nice grow log SRB! I've enjoyed following your season so far. I decided to try a few SIPs myself after seeing the early success you had with yours. I have five SIPs very similiar to yours and haven't had any problems with them at all so far. I used 14oz beer cups for wicks and I only fill the reservoir when it gets very low. I hope the rest of your season goes as well as the beginning did. Keep the updates coming!

Happy Growing!

thank you Dshlogg....yea i should have known better but it just didnt register and i kept filling the tank whenever i seen it empty LOL i drowned the little guy(see mill ima noob!).. he is greenin up now tho :P
chiles are looking great - congratulations and good luck with the rest of the growing season.

I get overloaded with the Japanese beetles here too but they seems to, for the most part, leave the peppers alone. Your plants are lookin' good, fresh ripe pods before you know it! :woohoo:

Thanks, I hope im ready to make some hot stuff

Yea i have found 1 beetle on a plant a few times i give him a flick and then dont see another one for a few days but man they are in mad packs in that apple tree scares me to think that if they all decide to go to a pepper plant it wouldnt take that many beetles very long to destroy a small plant.

If they ever got to be a problem you could just buy a few Japanese Beetle traps (or one, and replace their catcher bag with your own garbage bag). Those traps are 100% effective in my experience.

Great results btw. Just curious, have you intentionally stressed them at all?

Look forward to seeing the finished product.

cool ill look into that

thanks i do not water them untill they look like there crying with most if not all leaves hanging and curled in on them selves then i give them a goood long drink and put them in the shade in a few hours they are perky and happy then they go back to there spot if it rains i put them under there shelter so they only get water when i let them :P

The Japanese beetle traps are beetle magnets, do not use them. They attract hundreds/thousands of beetles that would not be there otherwise. The only good place for a beetle trap is your neighbors yard!!!

They won't really mess with your pepper plants anyways so you should be ok. Maybe they like their food a bit milder:-)

K i kinda thought that seeing how they are 20 feet away from my peppers but mainly choose to stay on the apple tree just with them so close i can barley keep my eyes off the plants...ok so even if there wernt beetles i cant keep my eyes off them but u get ma drift they are creepy lookin beetles as well and they jsut destroy that apple tree if i get larger into peppers im thinkin i will have to start treating the tree with spray and the ground with nematodes but for now i think ill jsut keep my eyes on em and hope to get through this season unscaved by these japanese evil lil monsters

One day soon you are going to go out and check your babies, and yowsa! They will be a changing color! So what plans do you have for the first pods? Salsa? Spicing up a jar of pickles? Video of you eating one? Inquiring THPers want to know!

with the first big harvest of reds i plan to make hot sauce and prolly a jar of salsa or 2 and ofc a pot of chili then with the rest i plan to make some dry seasoning mixes and if i get around to getten the good digi cam(current 1 keeps shuting off right when you go to video mode) ill eat em tho i have already eaten 2 small greens that were some of the first pods to set and they had stopped growing they had heat about 10 mins on the lips but were mild i have 2 that have been sun ripings that are about red that are also very small and were the first pods to set and quit progressing so and ill be eating them soon :P

and finally the ripening begins :woohoo:

kinda hard to tell but this pod is huge at least 2 inches long and a good inch and half wide

Wow... Just read your whole log.
I would have never guess you are a first timer. Great work.

As I can see you sowed your peppers in mid March, I did in mid April. So about 1 month behind you. But your pepper on 2nd of May picture is bigger (and healthier) than all of mine are at the moment
Just amazing work!
