Flavours of the Caribbean (Mainly)

Thought it was about time I put on blog on here as requested by a good friend Gary (wind chicken).
I got to know Gary having done a seed trade over 2 years ago via fb, and have always admired his growing.
As title says most of my grow will be bonnets as I love Caribbean cuisine especially Jerk chicken, curry goat etc.

I started some rocotos quite early as I know they take forever to ripen..

Will make a proper grow list when I receive the p.dreadie select seeds kindly sent by Gary and one I'm pleased to have as a memory to Erin.

Another one already up and waiting to be potted on is Carrot Jolokia which I was kindly sent by Ben (bpiela), took ages to sprout a hook, but got one in the end.

Just waiting on a few stubborn bonnets to show hooks before finalizing what's a keeper.

Know quite a few of the british growers on here as there active members of a forum we all share

Trident
Dennish
Snagglepuss
Heefy Si Borg
Jay
and also Plantguy 76 Jason who is active here and a couple of other forums.

Was due for a update as I resowed a load of chinense seeds as my early plants we're doing nothing as it was too cold in my outhouse.
Got much better germination rates and decided to up my game. New light unit ordered 4 x t5 unit and a new grow tent for the seedlings to bring them on a bit quicker.

Also potted on 5 rocotos I started early and well pleased with, and used a new powdered mycorrhizae that a friend in the nutrient game asked me to trial.

Looks like you're really stepping up your game Sim... good on ya! Having an enclosure to hold in the waste heat from your lights will help your plants stay warm... at least when the lights are on. Do you have them on a timer?

Yeah there on a timer Rick on for 16 hours off for 8 but kept warm from the heated propagator overnight so it rarely drops under 20 degrees ....Looking forward to growing your Gonchu this year and will be having ago at your korean ketchup ;)

Well I don't know how I missed this glog. Well I'm up to date. Love the list your growing. those lights will most definitely have a positive impact on growth. Jam looks delicious. Some great flavors.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Kind words and appreciated Chuck , id had enough of chasing the lastest " i must have superhot " as most of them taste like s##t ;) and do a grow for the flavours i like , im into jamaican cooking especially " Jerk" so want to concentrate on mainly scotch bonnets and a handful of rocotos ....

I think quite a few of us are going in the same direction as far as our grows are concerned. Grow what you eat I say ;)

Don't know if that's your first T5, I have one and really like it. It can be a bit much if the plants are too close. How do I know this? :banghead:
I have 4 2 bulbs T8's and upped them to 6,500k bulbs when I stumbled upon them, they seem a bit more gentle on the plants.
Plants look great! And I'm wishing you continued success!

We all know how generous and helpful our fellow chilli heads are, even more so when you get a nice surprise of a very healthy shabu shabu seedling from a forum member cheers Jez your a true chilli gent.

Potted straight up and light feeding of mycorrihizae round the rootball to help push it on even more.

Found half a dozen frozen bonnets from John (Trident) in the freezer so quickly blitzed up a Jamaican Jerk marinade.
For Rick and you other foodies try this true yardie recipe.

I add the juice of 6 fresh limes, will keep in the fridge for a month if not more, mine don't last that long.
Have fun and happy gardening.

I took the advice of John (Trident) and decided to try some of Bio Bizz All mix media. All the rocotos have been potted on using it and all looking really healthy.

I nipped out the growth tip on this and well pleased with the new growth nodes coming through, 7 days ago I nipped the growth tip.

Sim, your plants look great - really like the look of the  pubescens.
You are doing the UK proud, brother!

I have found that the plants like the T5's to be about 10cm from
the tops.  Some varieties get some yellowing on the leaves if they
are too close. You can see that in some of my pics.

Paul your bang on the money, as this was a new light unit of 4 x t5s I give it good distance over the seedlings then lower it a inch every week so they adjust slowly, kind words my friend and appreciated, going to be a fun ride I'm buzzing.
Will you plant out the same as us sometime in may. ?

Potted on some some of the real late starters this morning , straight on a south facing window sill to get some sun while it's out.
