Flavours of the Caribbean (Mainly)

Thought it was about time I put on blog on here as requested by a good friend Gary (wind chicken).
I got to know Gary having done a seed trade over 2 years ago via fb, and have always admired his growing.
As title says most of my grow will be bonnets as I love Caribbean cuisine especially Jerk chicken, curry goat etc.

I started some rocotos quite early as I know they take forever to ripen..

Will make a proper grow list when I receive the p.dreadie select seeds kindly sent by Gary and one I'm pleased to have as a memory to Erin.

Another one already up and waiting to be potted on is Carrot Jolokia which I was kindly sent by Ben (bpiela), took ages to sprout a hook, but got one in the end.

Just waiting on a few stubborn bonnets to show hooks before finalizing what's a keeper.

Know quite a few of the british growers on here as there active members of a forum we all share

Trident
Dennish
Snagglepuss
Heefy Si Borg
Jay
and also Plantguy 76 Jason who is active here and a couple of other forums.

Paul your bang on the money, as this was a new light unit of 4 x t5s
I give it good distance over the seedlings then lower it a inch every
week so they adjust slowly, kind words my friend and appreciated,
going to be a fun ride I'm buzzing.
Will you plant out the same as us sometime in may?

Yeah, buddy - out 10% frost date is May 19th, so by
mid-may I'm rarin' to go

Nice looking plants and yard Simmy! Love the pup too! Look up Blue Lacy dogs, I have a pair of sisters. Fantastic gals, but they need room to romp ;) They were bred to do similar work like the Border Collies.

As Fabrizio said the RCW really rocks. It's free here so I scarf it up ;)

I knew what they were without looking Scott and yeah there stunning dogs , similar to a Border collie , super intelligent always want to please and strictly one man dogs ;)  "Gizmo " is 5 now and still like a pup and ultra loyal , if im not around he sulks and if my partner trys to feed him he turns his back on her and wont have any of it

Gary got me in to RCW 3 seasons ago and was the best advice i took , like you i get it for free and i just ring a friend who is a tree surgeon on the farm in our village , he drops off as much as i need, payment is " chilli products" and a few cold bottles of country cider which i brew myself
Top the rcw beds up every year with fresh chips about a inch thick were good to go.

Making the most of some sunny warm spring days and wanting to give the established plants some natural light and harden them off a bit, about half the plants been sunning themselves.

Bit of a juggling act getting them all back in the tent at the end of day, but temps still dropping here very quickly about 5-6 pm. Will put the cover on the tunnel at the end of the month.

Few pics as I was sat at the table having a brew break.

There getting there Rick, one of them is your Gochu, and a beauty was the first plant to fork and bud.
The chinense catching up slowly but doing OK under the new lights.
But they we're sown really late as I was not happy with growth as grow room was too cold.
Just doing a experiment with some Guano and molasses in rainwater and adjusted to ph of 5.5 and will be aireated for 24 hours.
Will foliage and root feed and see if that helps gives the plants a boost.

Great progress, Sim.  Your plant-out will be awesome to behold!

Be sure to let us know how the Guano and molasses tea works out for you...
Cheers Paul,
Yeah getting near plant out and chomping at the bit now, plants all seem a darker green and pushing out a lot of growth nodes, think the bat guano tea is helping, but so is spending all day in the poly tunnel with the sun on it all day.
I soak all the bark chippings on the floor which creates nice humidity.
A few plants are budding up and I'm leaving them on letting grow naturally.
They will all be potted on to their final boots in a mix of Palm tree ash which has a high dosage of potash /potassium.
Getting excited now.

Picked up some cheap frozen fruits at local supermarket and found a bag of dried Borg 9s so decided it was time for some of my old favourite Borgberry Jam.

Stuff looks like molten lava. It's a true chilli heads jam.

Will liven up your morning toast or muffins. Superb flavour of summer fruits.
