Flavours of the Caribbean (Mainly)

Thought it was about time I put on blog on here as requested by a good friend Gary (wind chicken).
I got to know Gary having done a seed trade over 2 years ago via fb, and have always admired his growing.
As title says most of my grow will be bonnets as I love Caribbean cuisine especially Jerk chicken, curry goat etc.

I started some rocotos quite early as I know they take forever to ripen..

Will make a proper grow list when I receive the p.dreadie select seeds kindly sent by Gary and one I'm pleased to have as a memory to Erin.

Another one already up and waiting to be potted on is Carrot Jolokia which I was kindly sent by Ben (bpiela), took ages to sprout a hook, but got one in the end.

Just waiting on a few stubborn bonnets to show hooks before finalizing what's a keeper.

Thanks for dropping in Dev, I see your hauls before you went travelling, nice work dude.
I use liquid Calmag Scott and it goes in with the nutes, gravity fed on the auto pots and root fed on the container plants.
Nothing wrong in foliage feeding calmag just half the dosing rates and spray the underneath of leaves.
Here's a tip for you when foliage feeding calmag mix it with fish emulsion[emoji6]
the tiny particles in the fish juice with take more calmag to the leaves and feed more.
That's direct from a caribbean grower that has bonnet plants like trees.
Happy growing buddy.

Good tip Sim. I've been mixing CalMag with hydrolized fish emulsion right along as a root drench, it's good to know how to use them as a foliar feed.

It's nice to see some color coming from your grow despite the wet, cloudy weather. Hang tight... it'll all be coming in for you soon!

Pulled the first ripe pod of Gary's (windchicken) superb Caribbean cross Bonds Mahala.
Done half the pod raw saved the other half for tonight's curry.
Not bitter tasting at all, slightly fruity with a slight chinense taste in the back ground, all over tongue burn, that keeps building, the 7 pot heat took me by surprise, major hiccups and tongue break dancing.
It's got something really nice about it. Gary you got yourself a great tasting pod buddy.
Happy to grow this every season. :hot: :hell:

Very nice review, Sim! Great color, too! Sounds like you like to indulge in raw half-pods, too. That's the best way I can judge heat and flavor. Beautiful pod!!!
Cheers Adam I was well happy to get seeds from Gary 3 seasons ago, missed 2 seasons with 2 major knee ops and bad health, but had fun growing it. It's a superb pepper and a stunning cross. Honoured to grow this every season for Gary. [emoji57] [emoji106]

Looking good!

Though it is much longer and slimmer than mine. I've only got a few ripe pods off of my plant so far, but they're really great. All of mine seem to be pretty wrinkley/wavy, and have a great deep yellow color, almost just starting to turn yellow-orange at the top.

Anyway, here's the only pic of one I've taken so far(first ripe pod)....even the next one I got had a bit of a face in it, with a prominent nose.

Sounds an excellent variety Simmie... I'll bet it makes a great jam or fruit-based sauce. Maybe in banana ketchup? ;)

Just a few pics of kids ripening up as I was feeding the peppers this morning.

Nice looking pod Jubnat, I love warty blistered peppers like that. You sure your Mahala has not crossed with something else.
Lovely pheno anyway. [emoji6]

I'm not entirely sure as this is my first time growing it.  I got it in a seed train, it was labeled as F4.
It seems to be between the heat of Bonda ma Jacques and 7-Pot.

Fantastic colors, Sim! This is the exciting time of the year...when you find out the colors. And it's even more exciting when they grow true. Yours look absolutely mouth-watering. They make me want to make an orange salsa. Great stuff!
Orange salsa sounds like a plan Adam these freeport orange would go well in that. Love this time of year when peppers ripen up.
Happy days buddy.
