Forged in Fire

Thing I love about it is it is giving me inspiration.  I very much respect the ABS Mastersmiths, but when a new guy kicks their butt I cheer.  Also, when they go to their home shops.  Often there is one guy with every tool in the world and another guy with make shift tools.  When the guy with the make shift tools wins, I do the same, sometimes out of my chair and doing the happy dance.

It is one of those shows that says: Yes you can

Oh, and some of the crazy challenges makes me want to go back to doing the stuff I enjoy rather than the stuff I know will sell.  Here is a car, make a knife.

IT....will keel.

We enjoy this show. Some cool young bucks, but i like it when the old buck finishes before the timer, sitting on the stool drinking water while the young bucks are still running around like chickens with a fox in the hen house....

Interesting to see how stress makes one stupid at times and just forget what you learn. Guy let go because he sanded the whole piece into shape, did not hit (forge) it once lol

I liked it when one of the judges said the show is called "FORGED in Fire".  Little insight on that.  There are two large knife makers groups.  One is ABS.  I think that stands for American Blade Smiths.  One of the judges has always been ABS.  The other group is called Knife Makers Guild.  ABS is focused on forging blades and flat grinds.  The guild is focused on stock removal and hollow grinds.  You will notice the challenges are most often chopping, that is facilitated by flat grinds cause there is more meat on the blade.

So when the guy didn't do any forging, well ye they got rid of him.  I am mainly a forge to shape guy, but its mainly cause it is easier for me.  I have nothing against folk who do strictly stock removal.  Heck, if you want something stainless then stock removal is usually the way to go.
