I know the feeling  Squirrels start digging at base of my plants day after I put them out.  They like the soft dirt I guess, but why they have to dig right next to the plants I don't know.  
 
Little bastards. Makes it worse.is my neighbor feeds them peanuts.

Just put down a thick layer of mulch to dissuade them. Also some fresh dirt at the bottom of their tree. Damn. I'm catering to squirrels!!!
