Thanks everyone, the yard has seen many football and baseball games over the years and even a few ice hockey games. I built a 120x65 ice rink one year. Now it's time to reclaim some of the yard for myself. I still have not got a real plan for planting yet except for the watermelons. They will be along the long side by the grass I used my auger and drilled 5 holes together as close as I could get them and 3' deep and filled with compost and some bone meal. Now all my other melons I was thinking of planting next to the fence and creating a sort of trellis using the fence, would it be ok to plant close to the fence or would heat be an issue? Right behind the watermelons I will plant everything that does not grow tall so they will get plenty of sun. I am not quite sure how I want to arrange the peppers and tomatoes. I have 300+ peppers and am going to plant maybe 20 tomatoes. So what does everyone think about planting melons close to the fence will they burn up?
