Geist's 2012 grow log

This is my 2nd year growing peppers seriously and the first with superhots. I grow by windowlight because I'm in an apartment and finishing up university. These pics were taken today.

First, these are my year old plants from last year. They were all pruned back to nothing when winter started and this is all new growth. Thankfully, they all survived the lowlight winter conditions with almost no problems. Since I only have 2 windows that get enough light to grow, I can't keep all my year olds if I want to grow some new strains. Thankfully, my parents have 3 acres to plant in at their place so I'll pick which ones to throw in the ground this spring to get one last big harvest from them.

This is currently my favorite plant. It's a thai pepper but puts off pretty fat pods with a ton of heat. The plant itself also grows extremely well and green even in the winter while the other plants were hibernating. I'll be keeping this one for sure.

Another thai that produced all winter, albeit slowly. I'll probably plant this one at my parents'.

Here's 3 jalapeno plants that I fused into one. The pods aren't very big or hot but I don't just wanna throw it away. I'll plant this at my parents' house too because they like milder peppers.

These two pics are red habs. There are several plants in the containers as I was doing a clumping experiment. I'd rather just grow one adult plant per container from now on. One plant always seems to get shaded out.

This cali wonder bell pepper did very poorly not only during the winter but during last summer too. The pods never got much bigger than the one on the plant now. It also hardly branched at all which I thought was really strange. Maybe bad genetics? It might not even be worth planting in the ground.

So for the 2012 season my grow list looks like this as far as peppers go.

Fatalii
Yellow Bhut Jolokia
Yellow 7 pot
Red habs
Thai peppers
Bell peppers (maybe..)
an unknown f2 dubbed "franken pepper" by its grower, praxxus on youtube.

Here are the franken peppers. I love the idea of growing mixed breeds as you never know what kind of pods and heat level you'll get.

Here is my poor man's germination station.

Special thanks to spicegeist for sending me Fatalii, yellow 7 pot, and yellow bhut seeds. It was very cool of him.

My plants are doing very well. I planted a lot of stuff at my parents house because they invested in making a nice raised bed. I'm gonna get a huge yield this year from that garden...
As for my apartment plants, I decided to keep one of each species so they'll get the light they each deserve.

Here are the update pics of my Yellow Bhut.

And here's how my fatalii is doing. No pods yet but the flowers are about ready to bloom. Really looking forward to making some fatalii powder this fall.

Holy smokes! The window gardening beast! Thats soooo cool man. Can't believe how big they get in them containers. I notice a little green algae around the sides. Your doing great and might not want to change what your doing but If it was me I'd put something around the clear pots so the roots don't see any light. Keep it up man. I'm gonna grab a chair for this one.

haha, they look great, i'm just amazed to see them in those tiny little containers!

Thanks guys.
Yeah... ideally I'd probably want to use 5 gallon containers but these are about all i can fit in the window that gets the most intense light. I might be able to fit them all in 1 gallon containers but it'd be a tight fit. I just pollenated the fatalii flowers today and I'll do a picture update again when I start to see pods on that plant. I've got a ton of ghost peppers growing right now. It's a lot more prolific than I thought it would be.

Outstanding, Geist. Those are giant plants for those containers.
Amazing you can get so much out of them.

Geist , you are now an official pornogragher.....and that is awesome-the amount of growth you got outta those "pots"-nice fat stems, and now...PORN!

lol gnslngr.

Here's a miniupdate. Since my south facing window doesn't get intense light because of how our building is constructed my west window is definitely the champion.

My favorite part of the day is around 4:30 when the sun hits the leaves and the cholorphyll almost glows with such a vivid green. It's hard to capture on camera.

..and a quick look at some of the bhuts getting nice and big.

Awesome, Geist! That's quite the bhut plant. Baby got back!

Great to see those Yellow Bhuts, will be nice to see them turn color.

Yellow 7 Pot looks fantastic too of course. Funny, my Fatalii took a long time last year as well, but it started putting out a lot of pods eventually.

The first ripe pods of the season have finally arrived. :hell: I'm really impressed with the color on the bhut.

Very nice! My Yellow 7s looked more orange than yellow last year too... I'm growing the same one plus a Yellow 7 from another source to see what happens...

The lighting is a tad rubbish this time of the day but I was just in the mood to do an update of the ripening progress.

That first ripening Bhut yellow is a great photo! Looks like you have a nice havest to start the season off for ya. It is only the beginning!

Sliced and ready to be dehydrated. Yellow Bhut + 7 Pot death powder... step 1.
The kitchen already smells strongly of capsaicin.

Well my plants have decided that November window light is great for some reason and have all put out a ton of new flowers suddenly after a few months with no flowers. Some have self-pollinated and I have new peppers growing. Just some of the fun of always keeping a few indoor plants so you can enjoy growing all year round.
