George's 2015 - Yokohama Down In Flames

New season starting!

New grow box. Bigger than the last.

Tough decisions to make.

Just Chinense starting today. Plenty of baccatum and a few annum coming soon.

My beautiful bug slayer was nearby. Just for luck.

So, seeds started today:
Yellow Devils tongue
Bhut orange Copenhagen
Carolina reaper
Reaper x bubblegum
Peach congo
Mako akokosrade
Chocolate bhut
red jays Ghost Scorpion.

Plenty more to follow, this Is just Chinense

Well, rainy season sure is great for vegetal growth. Humid and wet. Me adding compost and guano to the soil surface soon gets driven in to the roots.

My yellow habanero that was looking haggered got a harsh pruning and bounced back to this.

Lemon cucumbers look terrible. The plant is full of burnt leaves but it's putting out tons of fruit

So there was a bit of a mess up with aleppo. The aleppo plant my friend gave me set pods and I mailed him 'did you grow jalapeño this year, this looks like jalapeño. Yep. Seedling mix up. Luckily I had a late aleppo. I dug up a jalapeño and put it in a small pot. This aleppo went in a big pot.

I have a few morning glory trellaces

Lookin' out-freakin'-standing G! Any cucumbers I've ever grown lose their leaves from the bottom up as the primary nodes grow further away from the roots so I wouldn't worry too much about that. As you say, they're into bigtime production mode. :)  Peppers look great... have you been picking any yet?

Not been picking any yet. Aji habanero might have the first ripe pods. Or jalapeño.

Plants have been really good at self pruning this year. A hands off approach works well. I just give them compost tea and add manure or compost to the surface.

That's a lot of Thyme G... do you have any Scotch Bonnets or Habaneros planted to make Jerk marinade from? I put in lots of scallions, thyme and 6 MoA Scotch Bonnets for that reason. Eggplants are looking exellent too! How do you like to cook them?  Boy, to fill a pot that size in two days it must be raining hard. I've seen most of Kurosawa's movies, and he seemed to be a little in love with the pounding rain. I always found it a little difficult to believe how hard it can rain in Japan until I found out that when you get a warm onshore breeze coming off the Kushiro ocean current and climbing the mountains it can produce some real "frog-stranglers".  It's even more extreme than the Pacific northwest here in the states. Do you get much lightning with it? How does Tipsy handle that?

I have some yellow habs growing this year. Filmost is sending me some MOA to test (as well as some Ecuadorian sweet and some lucky dog sauces a few of us in Japan group purchased) looking forward to it!

It's rained more this year than usual. Ready for summer to start, actually.
My aji cito lost some pods (some an inch long) cause of relentless rain.

Not heard much lightning, might get some when it warms up. Summer thunderstorms are scary, a few people a year die from lightning strikes. Not sure how tipsy is during thunderstorms, I'm sure she just burrows and sleeps.

Weather has been crazy here recently. some very hot and windy days followed by a typhoon brushing past.
I had assumed that plants would be unable to set pods, im glad to find they are still.

Sadly crows have found my veranda and have been nibbling on stuff. they like Jalapeno and cherry tomatoes a lot.. I have started to add deterrents.

Got some new reviews coming up. Thanks Filmost for the pods and being a hot sauce mule ;)

I think the peter pepper i bought isnt a peter pepper. plenty of pods, though.

Chocolate Bhut isn't looking too bad. it was a bit of a runt so it got a smaller pot.

Nice pics sir. And the quantity of pods on your plants is outstanding. It looks like your season is going to be quite good after all.

it is very hot and humid recently. Peppers are doing well but tomatoes havent enjoyed the change.

despite it being a runt seedling (so i put it in a small pot) my chocolate bhut set pods.

Yukari bakan podded up nicely. reminds me a lot of takanotsume

Reaper!

just got my first ripe Aleppo. its not the biggest pod, but bear in mind that plant started as a bonsai project and was transferred to a bigger pot later.

speaking of bonsai...

Should have gotten round to it earlier for the sake of tomatoes etc... but i finally got the shade nets up. a much stronger frame this year and my first attempt at building a frame using wood. (bought my first saw as a result)

You can see i left just enough space for me and my wife to sit outside when weather permits.

One burrito please, extra spikey!
this is her drying off after bathtime. today is actually our anniversary since we got tipsy.

Aji Cito is full of fruit and rather a nice looking plant. it was struggling with the direct sun and is not a lot better with shade nets up.

and my morning glories started flowering. this is Kikyo. A Japanese star shaped variety. really intense colour

Nice to see the color in your pods G! Have the rains stopped yet? I'd guess so since you have your shade netting up.  Looking at the pics people are posting of their pods, one of my mystery plants looks more like your Mako Akokrosade than anything else. If yours ripen a pale orange, then that'll nail the I.D. Your Morning Glory plant looks like a variety they call "Picotee Blue" here... I wonder if they're related. Keep up the good work!

they look a lot like Bhut in shape, bute half the size.

they are an interesting plant and their leaves look slightly different to any chinense i have grown

Vietnamese red is doing well great for drying

Had some pretty burly Jalapeno this year. huge!

Summer is hot here so cucumbers usually die fast. i had some autumn ones sown so here they go!

Had a taste of reaper the other day. flavour is boring but pretty hot!

Had to move the paprika cause its taller than the shade nets.

Out of curiosity G, did you get your Jalapeno seeds from meatfreak? Your Jals look an awful lot like the Jalapeno Ciclons I got from him. Were they a pale yellowish green before ripening up?   Everything looks really happy under the shade netting despite the heat, so I'd say you've really got your grow dialed in... good on ya!

those are actually early jalapeno from judy. but grown unisolated by my mate last year then seeds resown and i got a seedling from him.

definitely not pale. they are a very deep green from the start. British racing green, if you will. But yeah, whoppers! i am saving seeds for them! they turned out brilliant.
