No pics.
You might try Google pics, they are the reason I won't post pics anymore.
Try also Chile Negro De Arbol. They are similar in pod and plant size and taste.
Big plants with thin 1-2in pods.
After growing all the gray Fuzzies I could find.I think the larger podded 3+in.
podded ones are of Mexican origin.Mexican Markets IN Mexico sell the larger pods in both black and red.Just as they do Jalapenos and serranos.I'm talking about mostly street markets in small town that I used to visit.
Similar to some of the farmers markets we had here before it became a way to sell IN type crap( greens raised on lizard spit and harvested on a full moon or whatever),charge a lot of $ for a booth etc.
I'm sure the sauce vendors know what I'm talking about...
Only one I've found from Mexico that resembled -somewhat the Venezuelan goat weed was the Mexican Chile Negro De Arbol in growth and pod size, though the pods were not as skinny, more ornamental shape.
To me the original Goat weed taste had a Black Pepper tone to them in taste. Also an almost Frutescens-SHORT Strong burst of heat.
As far as the large Tree types from Mexico,I like the Black Chile Verde and black chile grande a lot.
4+ft. plant with 4 in.+ pods.
All gray fuzzies are cool, but I grew out every gray fuzzy I had one year.3 or so years ago.
Side by side there were a lot of differences between them.
In taste, plant growth, pod size and ripening times etc.
I see a google search says all gray fuzzies are the same, just called different names-probably info from vendors so they can sell whatever they want.
Also, look at your black pods in the bright sun.
Some have purple hues,others a blue tint,others are a red/dark brown.
Nope,I'm not addicted to peppers. LOL
Also see some versions go from upturned to pendant pods, others start out pendant and stay that way, others are always upturned.
Like I said grow a few different goat weed types next to each other, you'll have no doubt there are different gray fuzzies out there.
A REALLY cool thing is,I purchased a gray fuzzy that was surplus and sold to the 99cent store,BEcause it's pods were easter egg purple.(It was in a box for ? long before I got it,actually 2 plants.1 pendant and the other upturned pods that stayed that way until they were ripe/picked.)
I posted about them at the time-pics within min. after taking them home and posted when they turned black.
I think it was one of my posts called 99cent store find...
within a half hour they were black pods (in the bright sun, they had a purple tint to the black).
SO being who I an,I took another plant (gray fuzzy-I forget which version-it had black poods with the purple hue)and kept it for a week or so inside with only room light. The green pods that were forming were purple.
Dam I love chili's!
They are so very cool!
Look at your goat weeds/gray fuzzies.Post what tint you see in the Black(some are just very dark brown, all versions seem to have the tint in full sun that I've checked out.).
I always have 1 or more gray fuzzies growing since Beth afficted me to Ven. goat weed and at the same time I found Chile Negro de arbol.
I just picked some Cobra pods for dinner tonight. Not black Cobra, kind of a short Cayenne type that is fuzzy plant wise, but not as gray, with black to red pods.
Not as hot as Black Cobra.Actually milder-a lot milder and less tastey.
By the way, nice pics of the gray fuzzy you have.
Hot stuff's plant looks similar to Chile negro de arbol - as I said, more ornamental type shaped pods.
Wondering if they have a semi Black Pepper overtone taste to them.
You may have a X if not.Not heavy on the Black pepper taste,it's just there...
