Hey Folks,
I have been lurking here for a few days now. Looks like you have some great topics/information, and I love the recipe/cooking sections. After looking at the burger thread, I just had to make some. Picked up some serranos, hamburger, shredded cheddar, and went all out with it. It was probably the best burger I have ever had.
A little about myself: I am a happily married network administrator for a school district, play guitar [for fun and also at church], dabble in everything from microcontroller programming to lock-picking... and I love spicy foods.
I am sort of a seasonal chile-head. I usually start craving peppers in the mid to late spring, and continue eating them into the fall. For some reason, I just don't crave hot quite as much during the colder months. It seems a little backwards, but oh well. I still eat spicy foods, but nothing like during the summer. It is kind of fun building my tolerance each year. Right now I am at the serrano stage, but will soon be moving on to some hotter ones. Usually by the end of the summer, I am eating habs, scotch bonnets, etc. I haven't ventured too much into the super-hots, outside of sauces, though I did just order some crushed jolokia flakes from think geek. Should be in tomorrow.
Last year was the first year I tried growing any peppers. I planted one orange hab plant, and a red cayenne plant. From those two, I had plenty of peppers for personal use, and was able to share with friends/family as well. Turned some into salsa, dried some, ate some fresh... I was really happy with the turnout.
This year I have planted habaneros, yellow cayennes, jalapenos [they were in the serrano section, and I grabbed them by mistake], and I have a bhut jolokia plant that I ordered from think geek [pepper in a can], but I haven't started that one yet.
I have the cayenne and habs in pots right now, so I can move them indoors if the weather looks iffy. The japs are not planted yet, but I will probably tackle that today or tomorrow.
Well, I have rambled long enough. Great forum you have here!
