Greetings from sunny South Florida

Greetings everyone!

I'm Paul and I live in sunny South Florida, just north of Miami to be exact. In my family, I'm very much in the minority when it comes to loving spicy food. In fact, it's just myself, my cousin and a couple of my sister's in-laws who like spicy food. So I figured it was high time for me to start growing some heat myself, since going to restaurants for spicy food can be a bit of an expensive habit, especially in Miami.

So you can imagine my surprise when I couldn't find a single person here who grew anything hotter than habaneros in Miami, given the major Hispanic and Caribbean influences abounding here. I dunno, maybe I was just looking in the wrong places. That being said, I got a gift card for Christmas, and I decided to blow it on as many packets of Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper seeds as it would let me get. I got them just after New Year's and I'm glad to say that the first seedlings have already sprouted. With another gift card, I also got several seed packets of Bhut Jolokia, and just put them into a germination tray late last week.

Several coworkers of mine have become really gung-ho about my efforts to grow these chilis, and there is already a bit of a waiting list forming for said coworkers to try out my peppers once I have a good crop. It's also given me the inspiration to consider making this into a full-time business if there's demand for it, and if I get a sufficiently good crop of spicy peppers. I have already brainstormed ideas for what to do with the peppers once I get them, such as salsas, hot sauces, spicy marinara, and even entering the occasional chili contest down here in South Florida. And given the number of people down here who love spicy food with a passion, who knows, I may just be able to earn a bit. There's a decent sized Farmer's Market a couple miles from where I live, and can try out some of my wares there. Heck, I've even taken to calling my little adventure The Sadistic Pepper Company, owning to the fact that my parents both thought I was a sadist for eating spicy food as much as I do.

As far as my plants themselves, I have a vertical greenhouse in my apartment, complete with germination trays for the seeds/seedlings, a heating lamp to provide light, a couple temperature controlled heating pads, and once I get some of the plants mature enough to transplant, I'll move them to pots and let them grow. This should be quite an adventure.
