Growing Chiles in HEL - 2020

So this is it folks, I've recovered my password and bought 10 seedlings today from Jukka "Fatalii" Kilpinen. Didn't start any of my own seeds due to laziness, though I still might start some to sell.

I doubt they look better than yours! It's just that I keep pulling off the dead leaves (just went through and pulled several more off now). Look closely - green-brown-yellow leaves, half-dried overgreen leaves, clawed leaves, super-narrow long leaves, etc. Many of the apical growth tips are burned to the point of non-recovery, but they continue to push new shoots out from nearly every node. Many of the new shoots are also deformed.
 
The one that is probably doing the best is the Early Jalapeno - it's about to pop 40 or so flowers now. No doubt it will be full of fruit before it even makes it outside.
 
The second best condition is the Lemon Drop.
 
But it's clear that the pubes are super-sensitive to nute burn.

You know dat boy gonna be a master chili grower! Basically, whatever he do he ain't takin' no for an answer. He will raise up his front feet and slam them down demanding respect and acknowledgement. He'll be the first challenge to my alpha in decades. My Man.
 
Outstanding looking doggies ;) So you bought "book ends"? 
That's what we did with the Lacy dogs; I knew that they like lots of activity, so with 2 no boredom. They still act like pups. Darned if they don't love to dig ankle breaking holes.
Charli "wants" to be Alpha, except Pudding is always hanging onto her ears..LOL

No, only the one on the left is mine. But anyway, we've got two eight year old terriers so he won't be alone :-)
 
Shout out to all my bros! Paul, Devv, CD sorry for not being as social as you all are - doing the best I can. I am in total "daddy" mode now and trying to fix up the house for the new youngster. Hope you understand. Love you all :-)
 
Plants are growing like crazy now, need to pull off lots of leaves from the pubes just to keep them neat. And of course they grow sideways instead of straight up :-)
 
Early Jalapeno already has several pods and a lot of flowers.
 
Why is it that my "Mini Rocoto" is actually the largest of all my rocotos? It's forked at about 5cm after I buried it deep when potting up, and it has three long, horizontal branches plus new center shoots.
 
Rocoto Costa Rica basically doubled in size during the past week and it was already a decent sized plant.
 
They are all getting so large now that it's hard to take individual photos, might need to carry them to another room one by one to get some good pics.
 
I'm pulling handfuls of leaves off of them a few times a day and they are still growing new ones faster than I remove them.
 
Early Jalapeno already has several pods and a whole lot of flowers. I've been pollinating it via shaking it and also with my fingertip.
 
Even my Fatalii Yellow has recovered and that one had been severely burned. It's doing great now with all new leaves, like it never happened. 
 
Haven't even thought about starting to harden off anything yet since my lamp is doing such an outstanding job and it's still 3-4 weeks before plant out. In 10 days, it's predicted to be 1 celcius during the night. The rocotos could withstand the cold a bit but it really just slows them down and with this lamp there is no need yet for the strength of the outside sunlight - by keeping them inside, I am able to have really large plants when it finally gets warm.

Well, went to the sauna to inspect the babies this morning and what did I see? Basically explosive growth happened overnight. They are really crowding each other now. Had to do sort of an involuntary change of plan and start hardening them now between shade and sun - ok since I am working from home. Normally, I don't put them out until the spring rains come but my new grow lamp works a bit too well, it seems.
 
All of the chili plants are outside on the deck now and will need to be brought back inside every night for at least a few more weeks. After two weeks, the rocotos can probably stay outside but it will be almost a month before the other species can make it outside through the nights.
 
My Early Jalapeno set like 20 new pods overnight. Never seen anything like it before in my life. It will be a stick with a few leaves and a hundred fruits before you know it.

Too many hobbies and never enough time, and I don't report to work anymore :shh:
 
The pup is a pricey little fella ;)  I like doing business with cash if I can. Some serious savings can be had if you know what I mean...

To me, money ain't nothing more than a screwdriver. Just a tool.
 
The dog boy, he costs what he costs, but the value of one day with the boy is worth far more than 2k. I basically hate money, I realy do. It's just a tool for me.
 
I hired a 19 year old boy to work for me the past few days. He has so much energy and power it just blew my mind. All the tools in this world will never bring that sort of power back to me. So, tools are sort of powerful but not entirely.
 
I will never be 19 again.
