Growing Chillies for 2013

Hi there,
I’m Kev I live in the UK and thought I’d post a few pictures of my growing area and some of my peppers I’m growing this year. I had loads of chillies that I grew last year in my greenhouse but in the past few weeks I’ve brought a 3m polytunnel and have set it up at the end of the greenhouse. I’ve put down Mypex flooring and made some staging with some hollow concrete blocks and timber. I also grow quite a few other things too like tomatoes, cucumbers, melons. I still have loads more chillies to put in the polytunnel yet I’ll post more pics soon.

The chillies I’m growing are
Bhut Jolokia
Trinidad Moruga Scorpion
7 Pot Chocolate Doughlah
Habanero
Tepin
Big Jim
Cayenne Long Slim

Nice one.
Got the same type----but a cheaper model.
Works really well at keeping the frost and burning rays off, with a couple of heat lamps for the cold nights.

They survived 37F last night (left it open), so with no forcasts under 40F for the next 10 days, I took it down.
Yours looks like it has a bunch more tiedowns than mine does, but still fairly easy to take down for the summer, and put back up for spring and fall.

Hi there,

Here is an updated picture of more chillies I have inside ready to put in the polytunnel........ if we ever get any good weather.

I long for the day that I am allowed to have a set up like that.  Unfortunately my neighborhood association would have a grand mal seizure if I threw one of those down in my yard.

Hi there THP,

Just thought I'd post a few updated pictures of my chillies, I've moved a few things around and plan to make another staging on the other side for more plants. I still have loads of things to add to it.... all the plants seem pretty happy. My long slim cayenne's have some pods starting.

I'll start to repot these soon into bigger pots, I have some 5 & 10 litre pots and maybe bigger.

Plants look incredible - tremendous growth for this time of year - especially in the UK.  Very nice work.

Love the setup and the plants look like they do too (which is the main thing) .. Best of luck for the rest of the season

Wicked set up Kev, whereabouts in the Uk are you?
Hi there Mamsoth

I live in Birmingham
Another update on the progress of my chillies. I've repotted most of my superhots into 5 and 10 litre pots in the end I will probably move them all into 10 litres.

very clean layout, looks great so do your plants

did you ever top them or prune or just let them be?
Thanks very much. I do like to keep things very tidy.

I have took the tops out of a few plants to see the difference on 1 cayenne and 1 habanero, The cayenne is a really bushy plant it'll be interesting to see the difference in the yield of pods.
