I don't know about the rest of you but I love the taste of these peppers. So much so that I have decided to grow some myself. I'll be growing them indoors as the weather where I live isn't well suited for outdoor growing, but I'll get them out in the sunshine whenever possible. I look forward to harvest when it finally comes and I can't wait to share these lovely fruits with those daring enough to try them.
I ordered my seeds a couple of weeks ago and went ahead and turned a closet in my house into their new home while I waited for them to arrive. I'll be growing with cfl's because I rent and therefore can't be cutting any holes in the closet for proper heat dispersion. The closet is lined with mylar now and set up with a light and reflector, a fan, and plenty of room.
I'll also be growing in soil as I have never been a fan of the idea of growing in chemicals. That said, this will be an organic grow with nutrients coming from my own compost mix and natural soil additions.
Seeds arrived and I went ahead and cut the tops off 2 beer cans, poked some holes in the ridge along the bottom, filled them with soil, and watered them through. I got 10 seeds but want to start off with just 2 plants for now as I will also be growing tomatoes, tomatillos and some various kitchen herbs. So anyways, I popped them into holes about 1/4 of an inch deep and pinched the soil around the holes to close them, topped the cans with plastic wrap and was ready for the next step.
Now for my secret weapon. I placed the cans on a shelf above my hot water tank, surrounded them with some sheets while leaving room for some air, and then placed a ceramic floor tile above them.
Sounds ghetto but the results speak for themselves. They went into the dirt 5 days ago and when I checked them this morning, sure enough, THEY LIVE. Taproots are out, seeds are starting to stand, and I expect that by the end of the day tomorrow, they will shed their little coats and embrace the wonderful world around them.
I'm new so when I figure out how to post some pics I'll get some up.
Anyways, that's all for now. Stay tuned though and I'll be sure to surprise you with my results versus cost. Keep it spicy. Peace.
