HabaneroHead's 2014 Glog - Nuclear Destruction

Hello Everyone!

Thought it would be a great idea to start my glog. :P
I am going to start my seeds this year earlier, which will be the 31st of December.
As the topic title indicates, this year is not going to be childplay, thanks to Rick (stickman) and Conor (Saugapepper) who shared some real kick-ass peppers with me.
I am stil using my T5 lamp with a 59 cm long special grow-bulb (Osram Fluora 18W), but I am in the process to create a bigger grow box, to satisfy the needs of the plants. I know it is not the best setup, but according to my experience it is just enough till we get enough sunlight (from April).
I am planning to sow 5 seeds per each variety, starting with the Chinenses first, using plant trays. ( I have the 7 Pot Burgundy from two source, which means 10 seeds :P )

Here is my list for 2014:

7 Pot Savannah
7 Pot Burgundy
7-pot Barrackpore
7 Pot Yellow
7 Pot Douglah Alphanerdz-strain
SBJ7 (scotch bonnet-Jonah-7)
Peach Bhut
White Bhut
Black Naga
Naga Morich
Red Naga
Not Yellow Bhut
Funky Reapers
Jays Peach x TS
Trinidad Scorpion CARDI Yellow
TS Brainstrain (red)
TS Brainstrain (yellow)
Brown Moruga Scorpion
Chocolate Habanero
Magnum Orange Habanero
Maya Red Habanero
Red Habanero
Numex Poblano
Holy Mole' Hybrid Pasilla
Serrano Tampiqueno

I hope you will enjoy my glog this year!

I'm really liking the green plants in your new place Balázs... way to break it in and make it feel like home!

I'm really loving these Horticubes for starting seeds... last year I wasn't able to get any of the "Pointed Hot" peppers germinated even though I planted all of one packet of seeds and half of another. I planted a few of the remaining seeds in the Horticubes and have Rapires F1 hooks after 8 days. All the "Coloring Pepper" and Almapaprika seeds I planted are germinated too... I'm just waiting on the Tomato Peppers to hook up now. :)
Thank you, Rick! Impressive results! Normally it should not take long for them to germinate...they were shop-bought seeds from one of the best seed supplier. Sometimes we have some difficulties, but I am glad to see your have found the way to germinate them. :P

Very nice Balázs! Everything is looking splendid!

Those older plants just want to do what they're supposed to ;)
Thank you, Scott! Hopefully they will grow just fine. :P
Giving the fact that I am giving them only a 18W fluorescent tube, and a 20W CFL, which is not much. Hopefully I am going to have many sunny days from now on.

Love the group shots HH! The OW's look great. My pepper plants didn't get nearly so tall last year... I think you're a pro. Also the potted up seedlings look like they're ready to take off. Keep up the good work!
Thank you, Adam. :P Well, they got tall because the lack of light. They were receiving 3-4 hours direct sunlight, and spent the rest of the day in shade. Last week I visited a grow shop where they were having a Trinidad Scorpion plant in a grow tent...well I'd call that a beautiful plant. I am giving them only 18W (550 lumen) artificial light, and the shop plant is having a 250W CFL (28,000 lumen!!!!), which is brighter than the Sun. :P
The more and stronger light you are giving them, the less leggy they become.

Didn't realize they could get that tall through lack of light lol. They still look pretty great though. And the stems seem to have gotten thick enough to support themselves, so its not all bad right?

Keep on growing strong!

Hi Everyone!

This update is posted from my mobile, so it will be short.
It is basically a question..:-)
I started to collect rainwater a week ago. I was using it, when I was transplanting my plants.
They love it!
Today I read an article on the homepage of the weather forecast. They informed the country, that Sahara dust was blown by the wind to Hungary, which might cause muddy rains. I checked the bucket this evening, and it indeed looked strange.
Question is: would it harm my plants???

As long as it's just topsoil, I wouldn't worry about it Balázs... as long as it isn't contaminated with something toxic. That doesn't sound likely though.

Just wanted to say that your envelope of seeds finally got here today... Thanks so much brother! I'm definitely looking forward to growing them all... especially the Tomato peppers! Cheers!

Hello Everyone,

It's been a while sine I updated my glog, so it is just about time!
I have 111 plants in total, from 23 varieties. Approx half of the plants are doing very well, the roots are poking out from the pot.
The rest is from the second sow, or just growing very slow, and weak-ish.
I can see now which are the strongest, fastest growing ones.
Brown Moruga, Black Naga and Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion are the biggest plants so far.
I am planning to strip 50% of my plants as an experiment, following Spicy Chicken's example. This actually makes sense, because I saw when hail-damaged plants grew bigger and yielded more than the others which were not effected.
You will see that the plants are very light green, so I gave them some Epsom salt at the latest watering.

Thanks for the kind words!  :P

Here is a more updated pic about my babies, under the light

and a Thursday morning group shot

Also did some experimental Smoked Naga sauce. (onion, garlic, Naga Morich, tomato paste, carrot, sugar, salt), what I smoked with apple-wood

Also checked my ferment at my parents, and it is doing well, lots of bubbles have appeared, so it is moving!  :P

Thanks for watching!

Very nice looking starts Balasz... how much longer before you get your starts in the ground? Cheers!

Thanks Rick!
Well, well. It depends.  :P  Usual planting out for peppers is mid of May in Hungary, but in the last two years we were having 30 Celsius degrees at the 1st of May, so who knows. According to the forecast, we are going to have a cold spring, so I guess mid of May would be the safest. But we will see. Currently I do not have a car, so transporting all of my plants to my parents, who are living 300 km far from my house will be the trickiest part. I was checking my last year's glog to see how I was progressing, and I had the plants in the same stage they are now at the 11th of April, so I believe even with a 4 weeks of stripping schedule (2 +2 weeks for two strippings) they are going to be beasts by plantout. Lots of work to be done in the garden till then, not mentioning the fact that I will see my plants only via pics my Mom will take, since the baby is due in the mid of July, so I won't have the chance to travel to my parents. This is a  , and also a

Yep, skipped breakfast today.  Guess I'll have sausage and eggs for lunch.  Plus melted cheese on top of left-over roasted potato slices.

Great-looking plants, sauces, and sausages, Balázs.  I'll be watching your stripping experiment with interest.  I'm going to try that with at least a few of my plants this year.

Thanks, guys! :-)
Now you feel what I feel when you post foodie pics. :-)

Decided to repot the biggest ones at the weekend, the latest. They are just too big, so stripping won't be an experiment...it is a must :-)
