Good weapon Patrick, I like Sig's and HK's......and Kimbers , and SA's......
and all other things being equal, A FEW BIG HOLES ARE BETTER THAN A LOTTA LITTLE ONES.
Even if you do not intend to carry...a peak at the USCCA, or just a trial membership will give you a lot of perspective.

Rock Island or a Milspec Springfield would serve your purpose just fine.
forget combustion based canons. compressed air is far superior. nitrogen if you can work with steel. hydrogen if you are nutty.

I'd take a 40 over a 45 anyday or a 9 over a 45. a well placed small hole is better than a ill placed big hole.
bigger the caliber more time it takes for getting back on target, & most shootings theres more than 1 bullet exchange.
costwise smaller =cheaper=more practice=more accurate=faster follow up.

I already own a .357 Prehensile so I don't need another one. I don't anticipate getting into any shootouts so the speed of getting back on target isn't a main concern. I want a .45 so I asked if anyone had any experience with any.

So you own a 357 semi-auto? cause you didn't say that in your opener(or I missed that) I could swear you wrote revolver, anyway my bad some people like Baby Backs others like Spare Ribs, GL.......
No I don't own a .357 semi auto. It's a revolver. Kind of a moot point anyway isn't it? Thanks for understanding Prehensile.
I went to my local Cabela's yesterday and put several .45's in my hands. Liked a few, didn't care for a few and found one I liked. Now if I could only find my notes. I made the mistake of taking my youngest son who has a thing for semi-auto rifles. We ended up fooling around with the Ruger SR-556FB. A little pricey at $1600 but that's what they're asking, what I pay if I go that way is a different animal. Always wanted an AR type of a rifle. From the reviews I read couldn't find too much negative on it. Plus Cabela's has a sale on .223 ammo. 300rds and ammo box for $109. I'm pretty familiar with this platform too being retired military. A guy can shoot this gun all day long without any discomfort. Crud, maybe I'll get both of them. Never could save any money.

OK well I did it. Passed on the .45 ACP and bought the Ruger. Model SR-5.56C. It's a tad shorter than the first one I was eyeballing. Here are a couple of pics.
Came with hand grips, I haven't put them on yet and three 30 round clips. I plan on blowing some things up very soon.
Next thing will be some kind of optics on it. I want something low power, this gun isn't meant to shoot long distances. I be once excited mofo.

Are the deer eating your pepper plants ? I am thinkin' a lever action 30-06 for squirrels here in town. 
I've been kind of carressing it all night. Just like I'm a little kid. Yep they did throw in a case for it, soft one though but it's full of pockets to put cool things in.
I would never hunt deer with this, bullet weights are too light for my liking.. Now an ought six for squirrels, that's plenty of gun, ha!
A couple of the .45's I liked were the Sig Scorpion and one of the Berretta's. Both looked and felt good in my hands. Who knows, my birthday is coming up.
I did hit Cabela's and picked up a few hundred rounds of 55 gr FMJ. Going to load up on some gallon jugs of water and see if I can make a hole or two.
