seeds Having lots of trouble germinating bonda ma jacques

I've tried twice now to germinate bonda ma jacques peppers and I have nothing to show for. Each time I tried with two seeds in the paper towl / zip lock back method with a constant temp of about 30C. Seeds were from chilliseeds.co.uk site.

I had no trouble with my orange habs, choc habs, red savina, bhut jolokia, trinidad scorp and 7 pods...oh and the thai chilils came out like weeds. So what am I doing wrong with these ones ... or could it have been bad seeds? I waited as long as 3 weeks each time and no go :(

I wont try the peat pellets because I tried that once and barely anything came up and when they did, they were really weak. Paper towel method seems to be the best for me but I'm really struggling with this variety.

If you did it the same for every variety, and this is the only one that is not sprouting, I would have to say bad seeds. Even with some variation in conditions, you should have had at least one to come up. I would notify the vendor and ask them if others are having trouble and maybe try to get replacements.

hey,

Madhatter gave me some Bonda ma Jacques seeds from chilliseeds as well and neither of us got them to germinate. bum seeds.

Sometimes it happens, even from reliable seed sources. Last year I couldn't get the white habaneros to germinate even though the seeds came from a reputable and reliable source. This year, I couldn't get ButchT Scorpion seeds to germinate and they too came from a very reputable and reliable source. I look at it as part of the challenge of growing exotic chili peppers.

I also had sone trouble germinating these seeds,
out of 6 seeds i finally got 1 plant, its about 3 feet tall now and the pods are just ripening

Thanks guys. Ok so I'm thinking its bum seeds then. All my others seem find. I did have a lot of trouble with white habs but I've got one sprouted but its looking pretty shaky right now. Dont think its going to survive. Those seeds were from pepper joe. Anyway i guess I've got enough of the other stuff to keep me busy :)

Thanks again. I just wanted to make sure the procedure was the same for these (I assumed it should be). By the way, if by some miracle, the remaining few seeds to sprout (which I will try to do) and I do get a healthy plant, I will ship you guys some seeds for free becauase at least I'll know those should be fine :)

I got Bonda seeds from the same source and didn't get any of 2 up with Jiffy Mix. I then soaked 4 seeds in a peroxide solution for 24 hours and planted them in a small pot with some mix I threw together and had 2 of those sprout. They seem to be old seed.

Im not impressed with them(chileseedcompany). This is not the first time i'm having trouble with seeds from them. I also had burkina yellow and black congo from them and they are also an no show. I sowed 9 seeds this year peppermania that are 3 old. The coumari ou passarinho, Yellow habs(awesome variety by the way from peppermania) and congo reds and they were stored in the exact same location and condition as the the chileeseedcompany varieties were. 8 out of 9 germinated.
Shame on you Chileseedcompany. But wait!!! they have over 80% germination on their chocolate bhuts. Outstanding!!!
More than last other companies who have last years seeds.
Just blowing off some steam guys!!!

I got mine from Rainbowchileseeds last year. Never had a problem w/ em. Gimme a yell if you need more SVT, I'll see what I have saved. My saved seeds are OP though.

Yeah, I got some Burkina Yellow Habs from them as well and haven't had any sprout yet from 2 different plantings. :(

I don't think I'll be buying from them again.

Ya I'm not sure if I want to order from them again or not. At least not for the more rare varieties. The chocolate habs were amazing as you said. I also got Naga Morich and Bhut jolokias which turned out well but their Red Savinas sucked a bit for me as well. I guess I'm on the fence.

That would be great. If you have some, I will trade you something for it. Is there anything you're looking for? Maybe I have some seeds I have not used yet or not all of them.

lol.Funny you say that Boutros.
i grew bonda's last year and the seeds that worked for me were from rainbowchileseeds. I managed to find them and gave some to Ballzworth to try. its been about 5 day now so HOPEFULLY(GERMINATION) for both of us.
I could send some down to SVCONTOUR too if we have success. Crossing my fingers.

Right on, yeah mine did well. Pics of it in the topsy turvey/ growing peppers upside down thread. One plant produced more than I knew what to do with and it overwintered pretty good outside. Not that that stopped me from planting new ones this year lol.

I'll check it out dude. love pepper porn!!

I have serious doubts about Chileseedco. I was only able to get 1 out of 10 T.Scorpion to sprout last year, The B.Espelettes looked and tasted just like Red Fresnos, and they've ignored ALLof my emails. Seems like the British version of Reimers. just my 2 cents.

To re-visit this post, my Bonda Ma Jacques from chilliseeds started germinating after 22 days. Good thing I didn't chuck them like I was going to last week. 3 of 6 popped up today and maybe more to come. Just wanted to give an update so people growing these Bonda's don't give up too early.

That would be awesome. I wish you much success with your Jacques :)

Man I am lucky I looked at this. I was going to go home and toss mine which have been just over 2 weeks. I will give it more time. Well I guess if they dont look moldy then maybe its ok but man come on taking this long in a nice warm location with moisture. I mean what do the seeds want from me. LOL.

I have some BMJ I obtained from a fellow forum member.
I have about 50% Germination rate at this point, but I did notice they took longer than the other Chinense varieties that germinated.
