heatseekers

i havent seen it ,my neighbors just told me about that a couple days ago.my new favorite show first week in comes on a hour on discovery though

I saw the episode where they came to Chicago and had Italian Beefs. Although they are spiced with giardeneria (spelling?) they are hardly HOT.

Thank you for the links. I only see this when I am in the hospital. I know I can watch some shows online. The title is a misnomer. I wish when they are here next they will focus on some real heat, Chicago and The Metropolitan area doesn't lack for spicy food.

Just saw one episode. Do these guys know of this site? The kind of people on this site? The kind of sauces created by great sauciers and chefs that are members of this site? Do they even know the difference between c. Annuum and c. Chinense? I'm not saying that the show wasn't entertaining at all. But watching someone on t.v. that's "looking for some heat" shouldn't be settling for an everyday orange hab. There are so many peppers out there and so many sauces out there that change the flavor of a dish, why use a commercialized pepper? Basically I expected more based on the title.

That quote says it all. "Looking for some heat" not " Something that would make me wish that I had stock in the dairy market because this is blowing my head off " or something to that effect.

I take it I'm not the only one that's disappointed in this show aye Pi? I'll still watch a few more episodes in hopes they figure it out. But you can't have two guys eating orange habs on a show like heat seekers while you have ol boy on man vs food eating bhuts. But it also sounds completely scripted. Or maybe I'm just not giving it a chance cause I only watched 1 show.

I enjoy watching “Heatseekers”, I think I’ve viewed every episode. Remember the show is on the Food channel, not the “hot pepper” channel. For those who may not know the format: half hour featuring a specific geographic locale, three segments, ranging from mild to medium to hottest. The format features the restaurant, the chef and his dish preparation, and then the tasting of said dish. What’s the problem with that? Does not discussing the nuances of the species of the peppers make a difference to the general public watching this show? So what if the chef uses “orange” habs.? To 95% of the viewers watching, this is all they know and that Habs. are hot. It does annoy me that they continue to use the term “ghost pepper” rather than bhut jolokia, but it’s a minor issue. I even copied down the preparation for the “death relish” that was used on the nacho segment, pretty damn tasty I might add! I am appreciative of the fact that there is a show on the tube that is at least attempting to bring increased awareness to cooking and eating hot peppers to the general public. I will give them credit for that and continue to watch. Plus I enjoy the repertoire between the two individuals involved; they make me laugh at times.

Side note rant: Sometimes I find the almost maniacal focus on growing the hottest of the superhots from the most genetically pure seed source in the most perfect growing environment and then consuming them in mass quantities to be wearisome (slight hyperbole). I can share the pepper taste experience to others much easier by having them try Numex, Serrano and Fresno than can ever be accomplished by having them sample a Butch T or Douglah (which taste like crap I might add). To each their own!

You two might be right but I was expecting something else from the name. Afterall it isn't called Wussies R Us! But I have only watched it once and did only see one segment.

I can see how some people would enjoy watching this. But frankly its no different than any other format of shows similar to this. The only difference is this deals with heat. But take that out of the equation and what do you have. Its a very similar format to DDD and M V F.
Ok so theyre bringing awareness to peppers which is awesome, but do you truly believe that the Billy boy douglah or the brain strain will ever be on this show? Even better (keeping to the mild, medium, hot format) what about the lemon drop or Inca red? Possibly the fatalii?
Again I only saw one show and it wasn't the nacho show. I saw the pizza with red savinas and chances are it wasn't their best one. But the format is still dull. The other problem is they don't seem to know a lick about peppers. DDD and M V F explain what they're tasting and what its doing. These guys "it burns my lips". Another thing, isn't the placenta where the most heat comes from? These guys said its the seeds.
The creators of this show obviously didn't do any real research on peppers and should have brought guys in that have real knowledge of peppers. And they should have brought better guys to be in front of the camera. Guys like SD. Jay, wheebz. :) Even better a guy and gal dual SL for an example. Just people that truly know what they're saying but can make it fun. Besides who drinks water when they're mouth is on fire?
I will agree about the ghost chile name though, however, I can't completely agree with the flavor. I like the bhuts flavor, though the chocolate I'd say isfar superior in my opinion.
I don't discredit your opinion and as you said "to each their own".
Again I will continue to watch to see what happens.
