Hey Aussies, what ya Growing?

Howdy Pepperheads,

Well it is a pretty open ended title, but just wandering what Chilli's are on the list for planting this season?

I have started pretty late, but have finally put down 39 Varieties and maybe look at around 10 more to go. This time I am trying to keep the Varieties down(around 90 Varieties sown last season), but you know how it goes "sounds interesting, will have to try this".

Can't wait now to get home from work to see what has sprouted :cool:

So what have you planted guys and gals, are you getting germination yet?

Good luck Pepperheads and have a good season,
Micca

I just wanted to say that's a nice list. :) My second favorite time of the year is sowing chile seeds. I'm guessing you can figure out my first. FYI, TC07078 is not a C. Chinense. It's mislabeled by AVRDC. It's an absolutely incredible producing Annuum. It's tipping from the weight of the pods. You may know that already though.

Chris

Cheers Chris, it should be a bumper season.
Thanks for the info too, I haven’t managed to get a pod from TC07078 yet, last season got some from TC07077 and seemed to be Chinense. Really not too sure about TC07070 either(looks like an Annuum), but will find out soon.
Hey might hassle you for some pictures when they fruit if ok. Would be good to compare.

Micca

Hey Micca, that's a good looking list you have there, mine looks like this:

Already Growing:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Trinidad Scorpion
Bhut Jolokia
Orange Habanero
Chocolate Habanero
White Habanero
Birdseye
Long Green - seeds from the Woolworths chillies
Peter Penis Peppers
Germinating:
~~~~~~~~~~
Peri Peri

More Bhut Jolokias
More Habs (White, Red, Chocolate)

Germinating when they arrive next week:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Burkina
Bonda ma Jacques
Morouga Red
Trinidad Scorpion
Yellow 7 Pot/Pod
Aji Lemon
How do you do your seeds? Do you use a heatbox or something? I am trying the seeds I have now wrapped in damp paper towel in a zip lock bag. To keep the heat regular, I have put these in a chinese takeaway container and stuck my ADSL router on top of it. It seems to keep them warm.
Looks like a nice list happening there too Moshman. There will be lots of Chilli for you this season.
I haven’t tried the wet paper towel/zip lock method, but have been told it works well.
I use a heatpad(no thermostat) and a propogating kit. The medium is Seed raising Coir.
I have started to get seeds popping up. The first to pop up took 6 days, but that is with fresh seed saved from last season.
Micca
Yay! It's finally that time of the year for us lot here in the land of Oz! :D
The Serrano and Siam Hot I purchased from Bunnings so they are already re-potted and growing; Bhuts, Scorps, Yellow 7's, Thai Longs, Purple Beauties and J. Nardello's have all shown their face and are under the grow light; Choc Bhuts, Dorsets, Gunturs, Sweet Chocs and Manzano's are all sitting in the wee hot house waiting to do their thang and pop their little heads up; and the rest I will probably be sowing either tomorrow or the day after.
I might end up having to grow in pots this year, my house went on the market this week and I haven't found a new one yet so I might run out of time to get them planted. I've still got a dozen or so plants still alive from last year so may even dig them up. If they survive another few weeks then they're home free. I just picked close to 2 kilos of pods on the weekend, but there's not much heat in them so I gave the whole lot away as I have a freezer full of pods and plenty dried too. I must have looked funny at the tip, dumping a ute load of dead chilli plants.
I probably threw out 3 times as much, winter is cruel. At least we don't get snow and the plants have at least some chance of surviving. How many plants all up do you have Micca? 39 varieties is a lot... well unless your name's JR. :)
