Hi from Spokane, WA!

Wow, quite a welcome. In under 12 hours, too!

Spokane too. I'm new to the area so have no advice, but I'm going to start seeds in a day or 2

Wow, you're starting seeds already!? Do you have a greenhouse? Do you plan on transplanting them to large pots, or are you going to plant them in a garden?

Welcome from the other side of the state :D Wow the Washington crowd is growing in a fast way!
Tips on your growing? I will tell you that I live on the not so hot and alot more wet side of the mountains.. I started late since we just moved in this year and I still had an OK crop even with the shitty season.. Which leads me to believe somethings going on that a bit of advice would fix for you. On that side of the mountains I don't think I would have even bought a greenhouse. Also, if you don't know this already.. pepper plants can handle night temps in the high 30's and anything in the 40's n do just fine. YES they will do alot better with night temps in the 50s. Mine have always been okay. Here in WA night temps rarely get above 55. You just gotta work with what you get I guess. Also.. I will tell ya, peppers do IMO better outside in the elements than in the GH all season.. in my experience being in a GH allows aphids, and other pests to thrive. Not in a greenhouse? the natural predators are there to take out any intruders.. I'd give ya the long story of how I realized that but this post is already longer than any welcome reply in history I'm pretty sure lol.

PM if you ever have any questions, I'll do my best to help.

Good luck
Brandon

Thanks! There does seem to be a large Washingtonian population here. I had the perfect greenhouse spot that gets lots of sun, and I also use to to start everything else I grow (and I give away a lot of starts to friends and family... tomatoes, onions, squash, cucs, basil). It also gives me time to delay planting in the event of a late winter, such as we had this year. I got tomatoes 2 weeks earlier than everyone else I know. They are handy!

I had a lot of blossom drop on the hab varieties this year, I don't think I was over/under-watering or anything so if it's not the outside temps, then I'm at a loss. Maybe it's my soil? I used a combination of garden soil (stuff you get at landscape centers) mixed 50% with compost.

Welcome from Twisp, WA. You'll learn a lot here. I don't think any of us here on this side of the state had a good pepper year.
Even though Brandon's on the wet side, he's a pro. You should look for his grow log, and see his set up. WOW!

I will check it out for sure.

there are a lot of Washington people here. kinda intimidating for someone from down south...
Eastern WA gets great summertime heat, doesn't it? Seems like it would be great pepper-growing country.
:welcome:

We usually do in August and early September, sometimes late July... I guess it depends which part of E. WA; in Spokane, we are close to the Rocky mountains and there's usually a 10 degree deviation from say Tri Cities, which is south and a bit west (it's a desert there).

Welcome welcome fellow Washingtonian!!!! So glad our NW pack is growing so much. I see Salsalady gave you the link to Northwest Chilefest 2012, check it out hope you can make it. Anyway there are quite a few people to ask about growing. I am on the wetter side of the state. My plants well four of them are overwintered in the laundry room right now. I have a baby butch T growing strong in my front window. Going to start seeds in January. Definitely ask Brandon he seems pretty successful growing and Chileaddict has answered many of my questions as well.

This is a great site with wonderful people. Enjoy!!!!

Same thing happened last year with PA. There are many of us and we are planning as we speak to unite and take over the world! Muahahahahahahaha.: :hell:

The NW Pack and you Pennsiltuckians should unite! TOTAL GLOBAL DOMINATION. We could call ourselves WAPA's or PAWA's or AAWP's or PAAW's But remember this... We have the betterhalf!

Lmaorotf Scovie! We could unite for total domination but I am not so sure PA could handle what WA can dish out! Come on one of us NWP is formulating "Pure Evil" and it seems its working! Hehe SL. Methow Valleys people are

Well, in another week or so Scovie will be able to attest to what we PA Posse can dish up (whenever I get the next sauce made). I already know what Justaguy and RedtailForester are capable of...
