Highalt's Bloomers '11

Okay, I know I'm taking a risk here of not being taken seriously as a "chilehead", but I thought I would share some pictures of my non-edibles. It may take a couple of posts to get them all in. The ones that say "wintersown" are things that were germinated outdoors using recyclable containers as mini-greenhouses.

These are all perennials/biennials.

Dianthus 'Sooty' (wintersown '10)

Siberian Wallflower (wintersown '11)

California poppy (wintersown '09) I love the cheerful color of these, but they reseed like crazy! I'll try to get a picture of a whole mass of them together.

Here is a shot of one of the walkway beds. It will look better once the Achillea and Butterfly Weed are fully in bloom.

More to come ...

Thanks guys!!!

I wintersow all of my annuals for the pots on the porch and to fill in any empty spaces in the perennial beds. It's way cheaper than buying bedding plants every year. Here are a few that have started blooming already.

Petunia 'Prism Sunshine'

This was received in a regional plant swap a few years ago. Delosperma kelaidis 'Mesa Verde' (Iceplant)

I also have lots of Daylilies that are just starting to bloom.

Hemerocallis 'Black Eyed Stella'

Old, reliable 'Stella d' Oro'

'Little Women'

... and Lilium 'Dwarf Orange Pixie'. It's in your face color makes up for its small size!

More later ...

We've had some cloud cover, which is helpful for picture taking, so I've got a few more bloomers to show.

Daylily 'Happy Returns', loaded with blooms. It's larger than Stella d' Oro, and a softer yellow.

This beauty is called 'Mended Heart'.

Daylily 'Daphne Dale'

Okay, last Daylily, 'Fooled Me'

This used to be Rudbeckia 'Irish Eyes', but I moved it in the fall and it came back with half brown eyes, and half green.

Thanks for checking out my bloomers

Siling, I do save seeds for most of the perennials, except for the daylilies, they were received from a local plant swap, and since I have so many, they probably wouldn't come true from seed, as they have likely been cross pollinated. Remind me in the fall if you are still interested, and I will likely have seed from the Dianthus, Berlandiera lyrata, Gaillardia 'Burgundy', Aquilegia chrysantha, California poppies, Maltese Cross (Lychnis), and the Siberian Wallflower. Not sure if I'll save seeds from the Rudbeckia though, since it's no longer 'Irish Eyes'.
