Hola from Tucson!!

Greetings Chili Heads!

Long time lurker, first time poster.  I've only been growing "real" peppers for a few years and have been following the antics of this site for the last 2 years.  All of you are awesome and I have learned so much!  Thank you!

Several years ago, I was unceremoniously removed from my job of nearly 15 years and since I had a bunch of time on my hands, I decided to get serious about chilies and built a small greenhouse in my back yard.  It's only 10x12 but it's enough space to grow a dozen chilies and tomato plants every year.  Enough to keep the salsa lady (wife) happy anyway.     Oh yeah, with the exception of the greenhouse film, it's all made from recycled materials!

Prior to the greenhouse, I've grown your HD garden variety of pepper but soon found myself seeking out and preferring the super-hots and not so common varieties.  I've always been a chili head and love spicy foods.  My dad taught me to eat jalapenos and hot wax peppers when I was a little boy and that love of peppers has always stuck with me.

The contributions of everyone here has taught me so much and now, it's time to give back if I can.  No more voyeurism.  I want to play!

Cheers and Beers!

:welcome:  to the THP forums (at least officially out of lurkdomville!) ;)

Really great to have you aboard! Best of luck with your garden this year and your venturing into the more super hot territory! Cheers!

Hi. I'm also in Tucson. This is my first year growing peppers here. Have grown only tomatoes in the past. This year along with my tomatoes I'm growing 3 naga viper, 3 Carolina reaper, 3 chi chein, and 2 Hungarian hot wax. I started late because I thought I was going to relocate for work, but ended up staying in Tucson.

I've only been growing peppers for the last 5 years, 3 of them seriously in a small greenhouse.  This year, I have 6 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, and 19 chili plants which consist of White Fatalii, Bird Aji, Pimenta de Neyede, Lagrima, Quintisho, Poblano and Dogo Nyoni.  The freaky spring we've had this year has really stunted most of them.  I doubt I'll get much going before the June fry.

Thanks for your reply.  I did the Hungarian a couple years ago and they were good producers.  Sandia and Cayenne are great to grow here too.  Good luck with the peppers!

Did you buy the peeper plants or seeds local? I bought all mine from pepper Joe, which I didn't realize had a bad reputation on here. Most of mine have been stunted too. I thought it was just my growing. I moved all my peppers under a mesquite tree. They get two hours direct sunlight early morning and two hours late afternoon. Since then they have grown much better.

Great list of peppers, I'll be watching for a potential glog? ;)

Thanks.  Unfortunately, I don't have time for a glog.  Someday though!
My schedule right now barely allows me to look after my babies.   :scared:

The only plant I bought local is the Poblano.  Bought from Mesquite valley growers in Tucson.  Some of the seeds were from Fatalii Gourmet, and others from friends.

My plants get all day sun, and I mean ALL DAY sun in the greenhouse.  Once that sun comes up over Pusch Ridge, they bake.  Hence the need for the shade cloth.  The tomatoes love it, but the peppers?  Not so much.  I hope your grow goes well!
