[HOT STUFF] IPBoard 3.0 *NEW*

Not sure if any of you is/are familiar with the actual bulletin boards the forums these days are, but one of the most popular and older systems is Invision Power Board (IPB) and recently renamed IPBoard. well as an old loyal client I downloaded today its latest version 3.0 (released only few hours ago) and installed it. I gotta tell you, it's freaking amazing. it's an amazing combination of AJAX on steroids and client programming when it comes to the feel of it. the stock design is gorgeous and is *so* flexible in terms of uses. the Admin interface ain't half bad as well. you drag items from one place to another, it's super organized and even more easy to use than the older versions. it's a whole new system.

IPB's been pretty much the only vB competitor for awhile. The rest are all inferior.
 
LOL. vB has this cool feature called banning.
 
I signed up and tested it and it seems like a knock off of something MS release back in 2000 called STS (sharepoint team services), now known as MOSS Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server. The biggest difference is "board software" is still only focused on post and replies something that was done back in the 80's with BBS software. Yeah you can add a link, photo, photo album, and do things like quotes, colored text and smiley's, but bottom line is it's still just BBS based solution that allows you to say something and have other reply to what was said. It may look cooler, but I think most people it's just a plus and really doesn't matter that much. It may be easier to manage, but they are all pretty easy already now that they all have menu's and don't require you to know php at all. If I had to compare the new IPBoard to MOSS I would have to say IPBoard is like a 5th grader in a fight throwing rocks at someone who has a nuclear missile pointed at him and is about to hit the launch button.

First of all as a SharePoint Server user I'd have to disagree. it's not a knockoff and not even close. it's completely different. IPBoard 3.0 is a bulletin board period, and a good one. the innovations are functionality and easiness of interface, what people look for in bulletin boards. as an admin the power you have and the lack of difficulty of using it just makes it really good all around. with all that it's also updated with all the latest hypes just to keep interesting for all crowds. there's even a facebook thingy out there. anyhow, as a bulletin board, I think it's the best one I've ever seen. the classic ones are simpler, but the options here are the result of consumer feedback for over a decade.

The internet community always add new functionalities in the form of mods, but the system is pretty damn awesome out of the box.

As a hosting co, I wonder how well IPB scales now. They were trying to implement some new stuff to make it run well when busy.

vB is a bit of a pain to make run smooth with a ton of users, traffic and a few mods. But we've pretty much got it down to a science.

Guess I have to install IPB and figure it out too now.
