Hottoddy 2015 - 2016

This is my first full year growing in the Boise area. Last season turned out mediocre at best. Hopefully, I learned my lessons about the weather and soil differences and make the correct adjustments.

Here's the first 4 trays to germinate (72 plants). These are under a 4 bulb T5s. I've got another tray under the desk, and another 72+ in the germination station starting to sprout.

Closer shot of some of the early performers. While the T5s run much hotter, the plants seem to be growing out (sideways) better.

I'm also working part-time with a small, organic farm this year (5 acres). They supply produce to Boise restaurants, and even a local sauce maker. I will be in charge of the peppers. They are already growing about 5 varieties, but I hope to add another 100 plants. My hope is to buy some farming land in the future, and this will be an education!

Check out my profile for the 2015 grow list ... and feel free to give me a bump!

Thanks for the update. That red SB x NM pod looks great! I'm getting both orange and red phenotypes on both that cross and the Fatalii x TSMB.
Todd really looking forward to a picture of your SB x NM varieties if you have a moment ...

Here's one of my Maui Purples. The peppers stay purple for a while before turning red. I keep these out front because they're so purdy!

Here's PDN x 7 Pot Douglah starting to show color. These ripen into a nice burgundy color.

One of my favorites from last year - Bhut Orange Copenhagen. Great producer, hot but tasty.

7 Pot Brown Long - hoping for the correct coloration. Another plant reverted to red.

I spaced out the plants since they no longer need to crowd under the sunshade. This will let them stretch out a bit more over the next few months, and better isolation for seed harvesting.

Peppers (tomatoes too) I planted at the farm. We've been picking them heavily but lots more are coming.

Unbelievably, the season here is still chugging along. We are way above average for daytime temps (80 today), and nights are only getting down into the 40s.

Here are some recent pictures. The first is a nice big pod of my Fatalii x TSMB F3 taken today.

I hope to get a few more weeks before culling the herd and putting a select few into the greenhouse.

Looks like frost might be coming in about a week. :tear:  I'm busy try to clone and organizing a few "garage finishers." Time to break out the space heater for the little greenhouse!

Here is another picture of part of the little farm I help manage. This was taken from atop a new high tunnel.

Lastly, the CGN21500 x 7 Pot Barrackpores are coming on strong. Chris Phillips did this cross. Love these buggers! They're like little cherry apples, with thick flesh and nice medium heat.

Sadly, this is the last decent haul of 2015. It includes many green Aji Amarillos - which take forever to ripen - and most the remaining peppers in the greenhouse. With the weather now in the 20s most nights, the greenhouse won't hold out much longer. We pulled up the final peppers at the farm last week. I've decided not to overwinter very many this year, as many didn't do as well as the new starts this year. I do have 13 clones to play with. We'll see how they do. On to 2016!

This is the first 2016 post in this merged thread. Here are some of the baby plants a few weeks ago moving into the greenhouse.

This is the farm I where most of my plants will go this year again. Below are early season salad rows - soon to be tomato and pepper. This small farm sells about $1K/month in salad stuff!

Here's an area I'm prepping for superhots. I grew some here last year and they did well. Drip irrigation and partial shade helps. Official last frost is May 20th, but I may jump the gun this year - it's been warm.

... and baby goats! Everyone loves baby goats. These are about 1 month old now.
