Hottoddy 2015 - 2016

This is my first full year growing in the Boise area. Last season turned out mediocre at best. Hopefully, I learned my lessons about the weather and soil differences and make the correct adjustments.

Here's the first 4 trays to germinate (72 plants). These are under a 4 bulb T5s. I've got another tray under the desk, and another 72+ in the germination station starting to sprout.

Closer shot of some of the early performers. While the T5s run much hotter, the plants seem to be growing out (sideways) better.

I'm also working part-time with a small, organic farm this year (5 acres). They supply produce to Boise restaurants, and even a local sauce maker. I will be in charge of the peppers. They are already growing about 5 varieties, but I hope to add another 100 plants. My hope is to buy some farming land in the future, and this will be an education!

Check out my profile for the 2015 grow list ... and feel free to give me a bump!

Close. Unfortunately I'm not that clever but it does look St. Patrick-ish.  Picture one is at Saint Chapelle and number two is Notre Dame, both in Paris, France.

Here's one more.
My mind was going nowhere near Paris! Wouldn't have guessed that. That hot sauce is having more fun than I am!

I like your nails though...

Ding ... Ding ... we have a winner! :)

The nails belong to my sister. She lives in Yorkshire, England and shares my sauces with her friends - many of which are Americans starved for non-curry spices. As you can see, she is currently on the other side of the channel.

Here is an update on my Aerogarden experiment. Today I transplanted three of my hybrids (Fatalii x TSMB) into 1 gallon pots. These things really grow wide under the LEDs! I am going to keep two in the Aerogarden on opposite sides. The little ones in the middle are recently started Red Savina Habs, which will get transplanted before they get swallowed up.

Here are the two Fatalii x TSMBs in the Aerogarden today. These LEDs seem to grow huge leaves! You can see a little Red Savina about to be dwarfed. It will be potted up today. I'm hoping to keep these two plants in the Aerogarden.

Tiny, and lovely, C. galapagoense flowers.

I was moving some annuums around in my little greenhouse and took a few pictures of early pods. These are in solo cups and are begging to go outside. Seeds were from Pepperlover. :)

If you like early pods, give me a bump!

Sunshine time for some of the babies while I did regular yardwork. I'm not sure how much they need, as they are already outside in a little greenhouse. You can see some of the rows in the background and an irrigation line. I tapped a sprinkler line and hope to have everything irrigated automatically this year.

There are a few tomatoes and other non-peppers in the tray with the solo cups.

I've got to get one of those Aerogardens. It's no wonder people call em cheater tanks lol. They produce some amazing results. Some beautiful plants. Can't believe how big some of the ones in solo cups are

Thanks! I've only got two going in the Aerogarden now ... but they are about 2 feet tall and full of buds! The rest are dying to go into the ground or get potted up, BUT official last frost here is 5/20. It got down to 39 last night, so it's still a bit dicey. I will probably tempt fate and put them in earlier than the 20th though, so long as the weather reports look good.

Here are a few pictures of potting up today at home - only a hundred or so left to go!

I am impressed with how many forks and branches these guys formed while crammed in 4 inch pots. Maybe it was the extra greenhouse time .. or maybe they branched out fighting for sun in their tight trays.

Here's a TSMB x Fatalii (F2) on left and Yellow Scotch Bonnet x Naga Morich (F2) on the right.

Gotta love early pods! Things are definitely looking better than last year at this point. Here are some pictures I just took.

Some of my hybrids are coming along. First is a Fatalii x TS Moruga (red) F3. I've got several variations and generations: yellow and red.

Here is a picture of Islander peppers podding up at the farm (my side project)! There are about 200 peppers in this row, and 6 rows of different peppers (Aleppo, Islander, Twilight, Helios, Biscayne, Carmen, Tiburon, Bhut Jolokia and Indian Carbon Bhut Jolokia). We are alternating pepper rows with tomatoes for shade and humidity.

Here are some interesting Scorpion (TSMB) x Fatalii F2s. I wonder if they'll remain red like last generation. It has been at or over 100 degrees here for the past week! Thankfully, we haven't had much wind and my sunshade is holding firm.

Here are some updated pictures of the home grow today. I have a lot more growth (and pod) than last year at this time.

Here are some pictures out at the farm. The first picture is the main pepper section (mixed with some tomatoes). It's hard to tell, but the second picture is about 55 ghost peppers (in 5-7 gallon pots). They are doing well. The last picture is a fence line planted with ghosts and aleppos. This section was a bit of an afterthought.

The Fatalii crosses & Scotch Bonnet x Naga Morich I got from you are producing ripe pods- SB x NM has been ripe for a week or more, the others are will be ripe in a few days. Still haven't tried one, swamped with other peppers but they look good & I'm looking forward to it.  Your stuff looks good!

There's a picture of the SB x NM if you scroll mid-way through the pictures on this post.
Take care!

Thanks for the update. That red SB x NM pod looks great! I'm getting both orange and red phenotypes on both that cross and the Fatalii x TSMB.
