From other threads I've seen it seems that Pepperlover.com and thehippyseedco are the way to go. Have any of you had any problems with seeds not arriving due to WA customs or anything like that? I often see (although mostly on ebay ads which I'm never using again!!) that they won't post to WA for quarantine/customs purposes. Or does this only apply to non-commercial type operations? any ideas?

As long as the vendor/sender clearly marks seeds with their botanical name and ensures no plant matter (e.g. pods/part of pods/placenta) are present with the seeds, you should be sweet. I had some seeds from Pepperlover seized once due to parts of pods being present in the baggies. That was a long time ago though and I brought the matter to her attention so I would hope it is no longer an issue. Maybe someone who has ordered from her recently can let us know?

I was doing a little research the other day and as far as I could tell, chilli seeds (well, most, not certain wild varieties) are permitted to be imported into WA from interstate (same conditions though... labelled correctly and no plant matter). WA is stricter on plant matter and certain other types of plant seed, but yeah, chilli seeds appear to be OK. Don't hold me on it, but yeah.

What I found REALLY interesting is that while C. chacoense is prohibited here in QLD, it is on the WA permitted list!

It does happen though. I've had plenty of packages from overseas opened and inspected. All the other overseas vendors I have ordered from have all done the right thing. Many have been intercepted but then sent on without any dramas.

ChrisG , all you have to do is use grant aka Jungle rain, or Neil the hippy seed company and dont stress about getting seeds to wa .

The main bluster seems to come from the east - It's even bad in the afternoon and at night for some reason. I think shadecloth might be my best bet because perspex will rattle like crazy and also be more expensive. Perhaps I could roll out a few meters of the stuff along the railing facing south (just up to the rail) up to where the pylon starts and secure it with ties? Then I could put plants alone that railing beneath the windbreak.

Hi mate , be carefull with that germ box , it will fry your seeds , they get to hot , in winter its ok but to use it now would fry them if you use a spacer between the trays and the base it should be ok EG some big bolt nuts, and open all vents and even sit the top lid on sideways so it lets more fresh air in . i had one for a while and lost so many seeds they get way to hot . in the end it melted and burnt so i took a twisted hunk of plastic back to bunnings and went to a hydro shop and got a decent heat mat.

Hi I'm pretty new to the chilli growing game but I'm doing ok so far, I have a jalapeño, Jamaican yellow and Thai chilli plant that are all doing well in amongst my herb garden, they have been flowering well and I'm getting a good number of chillies from them! However I also bought a Ricoto Red chilli plant at the same time it was more mature than the others (at least it was bigger,not sure about age) and it hasn't flowered or produced any chillies?? I have had the 4 plants for around 10-12 weeks now and I'm coming up to picking my 2nd lot of chillies probably in around a bit over 2 weeks by the looks of things
Does anyone have a Ricoto Red chilli plant or know why mine is not flowering?

Tried to upload a photo but it won't let me on my iPhone for some reason?? Leaves look almost a little burnt around the edges, but like I said its right next to the other 3 chilli plants and they're all thriving??

Up load pics with photo bucket or other media upload mob, with out pics it cud be anything . I've got a 5ft plant with out a flower but figure it will do it when it's ready

Yeah it's been pretty hot could well be the cause, it still has new growth just a couple of leaves look a bit dried out? I still can't upload photos even with photo bucket? Maybe ill just leave it and see how it goes! Just me bring impatient haha also another quick question with regards to planting chilli seeds, do I need those little mini germination trays/greenhouses? Or will the warm weather do the trick?? I have a massive upstairs balcony with plastic roller blinds that gets sun and will stay humid

The season is more than long enough and the weather warm enough to get Rocoto plants to flower in their first season. The trouble in Perth this season is the same trouble I have seen here. Scorching (40 °C) heat dries out and destroys developing flower buds. I would have Red Rocoto flower now if not for the heat.

Perspex will be my next option if shadecloth doesn't work. I worry that it will make noise and that I'd have to drill holes or something to attach it.

Judging by those curly leaves I'd say too much water. Also I notice sun scold on those jalas. Shade cloth will fix that. I got the same on mine but I'm too lazy to use shade cloth. Even though I got this

That would be great! They do get a lot of sun probably only start getting shade around 3-4 o'clock?
With the rocoto apart from the obvious of not giving it as much water is there anything I could do to help it bounce back?
Also with the shade cloth where in Perth are you? And how much do you want for some?
