so many pretty flowers ... lol.

Thank you, sir! Indeed. Pretty, pretty flowers...

I've never heard a mailman swear before last week. I was out in the front yard trying to scaffold up my cherry tomato patch (more on that later) when he showed up with the mail. First thing he said was "Holy SHIT you got some plants!". I was like "Yeah, things got kinda out of control this season.".
This is what he sees when he rounds the privet hedge that curbs the yard. It's hard to see all the plants because of all the plants in the way.

I got another infestation of these little buttholes this season. Two nests, in fact.  My okra hates them. I will be serving eviction notices soon.

Thank you everybody for stopping in to see how things are going. I'll have lots of pics of ripe OW chinenses next week.

I'm gonna over winter my orange thai plant next winter.

Oh, yeah! I've had hit or miss luck overwintering annuums, but the ones that made it have all been SUPER productive. I can't wait to get some pics of that OW serrano once all those flowers set pods!

Plants are looking great! Some beasts in there, that OW is looking like a small tree

Thanks, D3! I'm really amazed at the success I'm having with annuums this season. I'll get some closeups of that 7 pot next update. The number of flowers and small pods on it is just unreal.

Everything has shot up for you.  Great peppers and flowers!

Thanks. Things have shot up, indeed. Getting out of control in fact. Waaaaay too crowded.

Beautiful bit of land you've got there. Awesome grow.

Thanks. The soil and weather are really cooperating this year!

those chiles on the sidewalk looking like trees

Thanks, bud. When I give them away to folks who want to bonchi them, I'll try to sneak a few pics. That 7 pot and CARDI are going to make some pretty spectacular specimens!

     Thank you!

     Quick update...

Here's a row of chinenses from the bottom (Mortalii, Douglah and Mustard Fatalii). Just how I like to prune them.

Same plants from the top. Don't ever let anyone tell you that topping is necessary to get lots of branching.

NuMex Vaquero. Absurdly productive.

Juuuuuust a bit crowded. I had no idea my annuums would get this big this season. The really tall guy in the back of the bed on the right is a bishop's hat OW. It's up to my armpits already!
IMG_0402_zpsydqtpgld.jpg

Here's another overgrown bed. That's a de arbol spilling out in the front. I'm going to need a chair and a whip to beat those cherry tomatoes into shape. They're really starting to crowd out the row of peppers in front of them.

One of four Hungarian wax peppers I'm accidentally growing. I thought they were jalapeños when I bought them.

"Not yellow" bhut OW going nuts. Pods are less bumpy and much thicker fleshed than regular bhuts. Pretty hot and fantastic tasting!

I'll get some more pods pics in a minute...

Beautiful. I am growing those Landrace Xalapas too. Waiting patiently for them to ripen.

I tried one of the serranos I got from him while I was out taking pics and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. I am also waiting for the jalapeños. Not real patiently, though...

Photodumpster is being a DC today, so I almost missed uploading this pic. Weird plant. It's a wild Brazil that was just puttering along a few weeks ago and growing crooked. I staked it up and it seemed to trigger a growth spurt. I didn't even recognize it the next time I looked at it. It's easily five times the size it was before I staked it and now all the old growth (pre growth spurt) is COVERED in fruit. I can't wait to try a ripe one!

This is a weird leaf I found growing on my Wild Brazil. Instead of having two halves of a leaf attached at the midvein, it has four - so in cross section it forms an "x". I have no idea what would a cause a leaf to do this and I've never seen it before. Just thought I'd document it and share.

the carribean reds i got from train from u look normal?

No they do not. lol They look way lumpier and bumpier than what my plants threw out in their three years of production. This is interesting because they were in a pretty brutal turf war with a Carolina Reaper last year when I collected seeds. Please keep me posted on your thoughts about flavor and heat once you get some ripe pods. We may be on to something here!

edit: I'm not sure how big a role physical proximity plays in cross pollenation, but here's where my Caribbean reds were last year in relation to my Reaper. The big plant in the middle-left of the pic is the Reaper. The two plants in the back of the bed are Caribbeans, as well as the short, squat plant next to the Reaper.

How is the biochar experiment going? Did you charge it before putting it in your beds?

So far I'm pretty impressed. I seem to be getting more mileage out of the fertilizers I added in fall and spring in the biochar beds. The "experiment" certainly isn't the most scientific I've put together in my career, but so far I like what I see. I'm try to get some comparison pics in my upcoming update. Hopefully tomorrow...
I didn't charge it before applying it. The manufacturer pre-charges it. All I had to do was open the bag and dump. They do sell a "plain" version, however.

Beauty plants, bit of a picture of health. Gives me something to aim for hehe.

Thanks, man! Things have really come together this season, for sure. I'm really trying to stay on top of my plants' nutrient consumption so they don't poop out on me like they have in years past and it really seems to be paying off!

Great looking selection of plants and pods. Great looking garden for sure. Good growing to you!! Cheers

Thank you! I definitely owe a lot of my success to the guru growers here on THP. This year's grow is a far cry from what I horseshitted together as recently as three or four years ago. I'll have some pretty ridiculous pod porn to post tomorrow, so stay tuned!

edit: Hi, Craig!

Things continue to awesome-ify at el jardin del dash-o dos. Here's some pod porn, as promised.

Habanero "not chocolate"    Interesting pepper. Doesn't resemble a chocolate hab in the slightest, appearance-wise. But the flavor has a lot of those deep chocolate habanero notes. It is way WAY hotter than a chocolate hab, too. Definitely a keeper!

Goat's weed     This plant just does not know how to grow right. I keep staking it and pruning it, hoping to train it to grow upright. But it seems to be hell-bent on just growing over the side of the container and onto the ground.
