I got some new animals

Today I started again with a hobby I left over 7 years ago. Back then I kept and bred over 20 rodent species.
In the last couple of months I started to think about starting again. Today I decided I will start again but this time I won't let it get out of control :)

I bought 5 European Dwarfmice (Micromys minutus). 2 males and 3 females.

Also considering getting roborovski dwarfhamsters or Steppe Lemmings

Neat, I raise finches. Years ago my sister gave me her hamsters, she said her kids were not taking care of them, I found out why in about 2 days, I am guessing the male takes on a musky smell that smells like a really fowl urine that filled the entire area around the cage, didn't matter how often I changed its shavings. Didn't take long to give them away to another family with young kids looking for a pet - after I thoroughly scrubbed the cage!

Finches are very beautiful, do you have some pictures?
My mother in law has Gouldian Finches.

I do, somewhere in my picture folder but I'll have to find them, guess I could just take new pictures but my camera doesn't have your resolution.

Currently all that's left are zebras and 1 lonely green singing finch but he plays with the zebras chasing them around the aviary and man is he loud when he sings, sounds like a canary. Its funny, sometimes the wife yells at me to turn the TV down, usually after a battle of sound with the green singer. Our satellite tv has a bunch of music channels and at times I pipe it through the stereo on the nature music channel and what a commotion that causes in the avairy, they hear other birds in the music and try to communicated with them.

I use to have gouldians, indian spice, silver bills, orange cheek waxbill, african silver bill and various zebra varieties.

I tried to grow millet outside this year and no sprigs came out, a couple years ago I had lots of millet and decided to grow it again this year.

Mice are cute little critters. They can be curious and playful at time. I used to keep 2 adults so I can harvest the young for my pet fish. It was much cheaper than buying pinkies from the local pet shop. Plus it's amazing how many littler ones they have at once.

Now I know that I said I would take it slow but I failed

Today was a good day. The european dwarfmice were breeding and one female is building a nest so I hope to have bay mice soon :)
It was also a good day because I bought some more rodents

First I got a group of 7 African pygmy mice (3 males, 4 females). These are the smallest mammals in the world.

Mus minutoides

The next one is a male Chinese hamster. I'm looking for a white female for him.

Cricitulus griseus

Finally we come to the rodents I wanted the most, Roborovski hamsters. I was able to get 6, they were unsexed but I think there are 3 males and 3 females which would be great.

Toooooooooo cute Vincent.

We've had our share of the little rodents. Keep an eye on the Roborovski hamsters for any discontent among them. For the most part they live together very well. You can get a male or female that wants to be dominant and they will kill each other.

They are all extremely cute critters aren't they? Easy to see why you're into them. Best of luck man.

I know what you're talking about with the roborovski. They are still young, I plan to keep them as couples when they are a bit older.
I do have some experience with rodents. I have had gerbils, mice, jerboas, chinchillas, degus, hamsters and much more. I used to breed gerbils 10 years ago. I also entered my gerbils in competitions and I won the national championship 3 years running with mongolian gerbils. Also won some international shows with different varieties of gerbils and mice.

Very cool Mice and stuff. I'm not aloud to have any mice or rat now as my Gf thinks I'll get more snakes. I've alway liked farming a few mice. I found I liked them better than rabbits. PS I don't think the owlet would ever eat a mouse.
