I hate seeing a wounded animal suffer

Something I see is a few People understand might be the whole post or reason for it.

Too bad some people on either/both sides see Good OR BAD about the whole thing.

To me Killing wasn't the issue,a suffering critter was...

Faster than starvation.
Although normally I am all for classic jokes and stuff, especially those in poor taste, I cannot help but feel a little offended at this.

I, too, cannot bear to watch another living creature suffer. As a small breeder of various critters, we occasionally get sick or wounded animals and being the man of the house, I usually end up being the one who must euthanize them. If it were me, I would catch the little guy and dispatch of him myself. I wouldn't wait, either. Imagine the pain the poor guy had been in for those three days. Must have been horrible!

He couldn't get to it, couldn't shoot it. Poison was about the only option if he was to do something himself. But, he didn't. He wanted other people to do something about it, and the bird suffered a long time because of it.

Oh, I didn't realize he couldn't get to it. Without getting into any gory detail, the way we dispatch some of our feeders when we don't have a CO2 chamber is a method similar to a rabbit wringer. Not pretty, but swift and humane. Kind of emotionally difficult the first few times.
