So yeah, I know it's kinda late in the season to be starting but can anyone recommend anything that would be ok to start growing now? I guess I'd just be growing on a windowsill or something like that...however I am led to believe that my friend has a artificial light (from growing the naughty stuff) that I could use if necessary.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Getting pretty late indeed. I would say if anything will grow, they have some quick growing Jalapeno's and maybe some certain bell peppers. I would forget about the superhots as they just take to long to germinate and grow. But for the low cost of a few seeds, could always try.

Then again..you could always order plants online!
 
I started some seed this past weekend - Im hoping to get something by then end of August - Your climate is tough but you can always bring the plant in if you dont get the fruit to ripen before the frost
 
+1 on either annuums or get plants from a) a local nursery or b) online. You can try starting seeds for other varieties then plan on bringing them indoors when cold weather hits, but you also risk getting a nasty aphid attack that way. Aphids can be eliminated, but many members here will tell you it's not an easy battle.
 
+100 on most annuums this late in the season...if you have some, try the Super Chili...massive amounts of 1 inch bullet shaped peppers that are about ~70K scoville peppers...and they produce pretty quick too...

Giving it some thought I think I'll get myself a plant or two this year and try properly with the seeds next year.

Is there a place online to purchase super hot plants that are already growing? Or should I just go to a nursery and pick up something there?

because of my growing season.. my first attempts at peppers years ago was an early jalapeno.. they came out great. ( that year we couldn't even get things in the ground until june.

Strange!
Not long ago Jim said he thought the smaller and hotter type of scorpion he was growing might be Butch T scorpions, but now he says he got the seeds right from Butch himself. What's up with that Jim or Butch?
My guess is Jim is selling what he thinks may be Butch T scorpion seeds(and they probably are due to the high heat levels recorded) but he has now also recently recieved seeds from Butch for comparison.
Maybe not a big deal but I just hate inconsistancies in stories :)

Hi Matty!

With grow lights you can grow any pepper, anytime. Relying only on sunlight will be a bit of a challenge though this late in the game. As others have said, annums are quicker to grow and produce - especially some varieties (like early jalapeno). Plus, from my experince, they're just easier to grow and harder to (accidentally) kill. :)

But, if you're as degenerate as most of us chili-heads are, I know you're going to plant a couple of super hots as well! If you don't get enough sunlight, you can always use your friend's...ahem...equipment. Or, if you're just going for one or two plants, one or two 20w 6400K cfl's that fit in any standard lamp/reflector/light fixture will give them enough light to grow.
 
Padron is a fast growing chili. Also there is early jalapeno, bell peppers, cayenne,& Pimento. Just throwing some out there that you could try.

Most hybrid type annuums usually grow quite quick but this late in the game you're still much beter off buying plants

POTAWIE I'm not privy to the info you have access to but I find it kind of strange that Butch T plants are already available commercially.
 
I'm not surprised at all, they've been traded on chile forums for probably about 6 years now. I know I've given out or traded thousands of these seeds over the years and this year there is even more demand now that they've finally been SHU tested.

Not quite sure really about the details. I just hope they are really hot! lol They could make a knockout sauce!
 
I think I'm going to buy some super hots and try it out anyways. It has been freezing up until recently in CT so I couldn't really plant any earlier. Might be a waste but it could be a good learning experince

Yeahh I will stick a few seeds in, just to have a go! I think I might have to set up my friends equipment....also believe he has a hydro kit, but I cannot be bothered with all of that.
