I quit my job today

What do/did you do where do you live?

I'm only 24 and I was the manager for a large dog walking company. prior to that I was in market research and the assistant manager for the facility. I'm thinking REI and possibly whole foods since they have full benefits for only part time workers. My class schedule is all in the evenings so at least I have that going for me.

Yx3 - Good for You! It takes courage to stand up for yourself, regardless of age. If a boss has to resort guilt tactics, after all the extra you took on, it's probably not that good of a fit for you anyway! Their loss! Just know your better position is out there waiting for you to show up. There are alot of awesome success stories in this thread....some may have taken a bit of time to manifest, but like Scovie said in his status update....Awesome attracts Awesome! Go get yours!!!!!!!! :D

My wife and I were made redundant from our jobs nearly 5 years ago and we were told on our wedding day! So we spent a great part of our honeymoon sorting out how we were going to pay for what we had just celebrated when we should have been doing plenty more of other things ;) :liar: ;) (had to put that the middle one on)

But...It was the best thing that ever happend to us (although it was hard to see that at the time) We decided to say "kiss my fat one"! to anybody else that could have an effect over our cash income again and started our own business. We were totally broke - had just paid for a wedding remember! But that feeling of being in control of OUR OWN LIVES spurred us on and we are doing quite well now (could always do better - but who couldn't hey?) We started a family and I have been with my two kids everyday since they were born and have not missed a thing.

So it's hard to start with when something changes quickly in our lives but everything happens for a reason...now it's up to you to either make the reason work in your favour.

I wish you great success on your new chapter :)

I sincerely wish you luck and maybe I am a bit envious but you screwed up. You negotiate better with prospective employers when you have a job. This thing you hear about people not hiring unemployed is true.

I have interviewed many people and you need to figure out a good way to spin this so that it looks like you calmly weighed your options and made a rational decision.

In the future make sure you have a job before you quit. Get out of bad jobs in an intelligent way.

Not 100% in every case. I left a job once beacuse after having worked there for nearly 1 year on a temp contract, working my nuts off everyday and being promise that at the 6 month stage I would get a full time contract...I got nothing! Whilst a lot of other people and I mean ALOT got contracts (they were foreign workers) were give contracts almost straight away, I didn't think it was fair that I was being lead along so I left.

I went for an interview several months later and got the job! Part of the reason the hired me (apart from my super amazing skills!) was becuase I was "Available". They had interviewed many other people and said the thing we the other candidats is they had to give thier current employers notice to quit. The company wanted someone to start striaght away...me! Job secured and mainly becuase I didn't have a job.

But yes everyone always says it's easier to get a job when you have a job...but those people usaually work for other people for the rest of thier lives worrying whether they will have a job week to week and then have to worry about finding a new job when the boss pee's them off AGAIN.

I would say though that if you are unemployed and looking for a new job then you need to stay active not just in your job search but in day to day stuff. A future employer will always ask what you have been doing in the 1,2, 3 or 6 months you have had no job for.

Again best of luck, hope it works out for you soon :P

Don't want to hijack the thread. My boss told me that things are going to change and that she has projects and a plan for implementing them. Much to my surprise I got a decent year-end (not great but better than expected). I am evaluating what I want to do for the next 20 years and thinking about a career (not just job) change.

As an aside, there is a man who got hit in the head and it improved his memory. I know someone who lipped off to a guy bigger than him. At the hospital they discovered a brain tumor and therefore the beating saved his life. Based on those examples you can take a hammer to your head. I wouldn't.

Anyway, I'm glad everyone is at least getting by and hasn't shot themselves in the foot.

The closer I get to deployment, the less tolerable I am with my employers. Let's face it.....it's truly become a buyer's market when it comes to choosing employees and the way you have to treat them. Some days I want to tell them where to stick it......but I refrain. I'd NEVER fall behind in my responsibilities, but I'm 90% sure they're treating me like an obsolete part because I'll be gone for a year. Kentucky is a hire-at-will state......so if they were to terminate me in order to hire someone w/o military requirements would be hard to fight.......

It sucks that your boss had to do that to ya, but it's awesome of ya that you quit. Chances are if you didn't, your boss would just continue to shovel responsibilities on ya, and before you know it, you'd be doing the job of a whole department, and for 1/50th the price...

If ou're not working now Yyy take them up on their next offer of part time work. Tell them you want your previous wage doubled. Make some money.

Best of luck finding the right job.
