I want YOU!

I've been here a few days as well as lurking for a few weeks and i'm interested in getting to know more of the forum members. From reading as many posts as I possibly can i've realized that 99% of everyone here seems to be nice and helpful people but besides that I know almost nothing about all of you. I suppose I oughta tell you about myself. My name is Sean and I live in Northeast Florida. I'm 22 but I feel about 60. I am a fan of hot sauce, guns and God. I've lived in Florida since I was about 1 years old and have grown up around military members my whole life. I am also a writer, currently working on my first full fledged book. I've written a few published short stories but never any books. I listen to just about every genre of music imaginable and lately i've been on a 50's -60's kick. My favorite pepper is the habanero, with its fruity flavor and slow developing heat. developing heat. Next season I plan on growing the 7pots Brain Stem (If I can find some seeds anywhere), Bhut Jolokias, Black Trinidad Scorpions and Red Savinas. Currently i'm growing Thais, Orange Habs, Hot Jalapenos, Banana Peppers and Datils. Now it's you all's turn!

My name is Nick and I am an addict...

Just Kidding

I live in bama, love growing peppers and cooking. Will graduate in december with a degree in bio-medical and industrial electronics. I have a two year old son, and I have been married for two years... oh.. And I am a hillbilly, shooting beer cans, destroying cars at a two year olds birthday party... shooting tater guns.. in general I love to have fun! click the link below to go to another thread and scroll down to my post.. then you shall see what makes me... me!

MORE EXPLANATION OF ME!

Nice idea bro, was thinking the same. Although you already know too much about me, I'll reply so others can mingle etc :)

Most of my online friends refer to me as Red.
I'm currently 25, residing in Brisbane, rather laid back, and a first time pepper grower.
Although if I eat too many, they tend to trigger hiccups in me, I love a nice Jalapeno or stuffed pepper, and wanting to broaden my range of pepper eating experiences.

Heavy background in I.T. Hobbies include programming, electronics, modeling and now growing peppers :D

I'm currently growing Razzamatazz and have started a blog on here which I'm planning to update weekly with how they're going. (Am trying to find out the proper and/or scientific name for these, but it's not proving to be an easy task :P)

If you're into the seed swaps, add me as a friend so I can let you know when/if I successfully obtain seeds from my crop :D As I'm sure a few of you have picked up by now, I'm rather excited about that aspect of THP :)

That's all I can think of for now :P

Thanks for the reply, xXA_HillbillyXx. Sounds like what you do to cars is what I do to paint cans, bottles, tires and whatever else is laying around. I do prefer setting up old army men on each side of our pit and using the .22 for mortars. I reserve the Nagant and .270 to AC130 airstrikes and nukes. :D

Melium, nice idea hope it plays out. I'm too shy to say anything about myself, maybe later.

It's 7 Pot Brain Strain by the way.

Best of luck to you on your writing career.

Ah, thanks for the correction Patrick and for the luck. I'm going to need it. The last 4 books I started never got past Chapter 3, this one has made it a good bit further and I have a co-writer adding in alot of great ideas aswell.

Welcome, Melium! :welcome:

THP is a great forum with tons of information, just for the reading. Most folks who wish to share personal info will do so in a "welcome" post. Maybe I'm a little confused, is this a welcome/intro post for Melium?

Anyway, definitely best wishes on your book! Props to you for taking on the challenge of writing a book. I wouldn't even be able to get past writing the title page of a book!
SL

Salsalady, I posted a bit about myself in the Intro category. I posted this mainly to learn more about everyone else here. I like to get to know the people who I read things from for countless hours per day. I do agree that THP is a great forum with tons of info also, i've been gleaning every bit I can for the last few weeks.

AAhhh, Thanks for clarifying, Melium. Should get some interesting responses! SL

Im retired. Im too fat, mostly bald. But enough about my star attributes. . I see your are into a 50's 60's groove. Im stuck in them and have never left. I stll think Dean Martin and Old Blue Eyes are on top of the charts. I reminisce all day long about what was. After a 22 year stay, me and the old lady have moved to a new apt. When the weather allows i sit on the stoop with my best friend of 15 years:Shakespeare(he is my dog). I started growing peppers cause after a full day outing of fishing on a local charter i decided that retirement was not meant to wake up at 4;30 am to go catch fish, get seasick, pay 65 bucks and come home half bombed, & needing a shower and a nap. I was never a computer guy but i check this forum so many times a day you would think i had my life savings tied up in it. In my short time as a memeber i have met kind , generous people that i hope stay life long friends. Well that wraps it up for now. I feel like i just wrote my first chapter in my memoir

If so, it was a great chapter, Old Man, I enjoyed it. I am a big fan of fishing myself but unfortunately I cannot afford to go charter fishing. Peppers for me started back a few years ago while at Taco Bell. Eating fire sauce as dares from friends started a fire that smouldered until last year when I discovered some of the hot sauces at PepperPalace. After eating Hottest Sauce In The Universe 2, with its gritty and oily texture, I knew there was no turning back. So far i've made 6 hot sauces for myself and a few friends(Who dont dare eat them) and i'm hoping to make it a side job or even full time.

from my introduction in the welcome:

hi!

i found this site a few years ago but decided to pass on it because at the time i was just barely beginning to tolerate eating tabasco sauce and we all know that isn't exactly all that hot. so the content here was way beyond my needs and i figured it wasn't for me.

funny thing happened, i trained myself to tolerate heat. initially 1 drop of tabasco in anything and my mouth would break out in sores and they lasted for a day or so, very uncomfortable and unpleasant. but i really liked the taste of tabasco sauce so i tried to get used to it a little at a time. i found after a week or so i could tolerate a drop in something and then i added 2 drops. within a few weeks i was able to put a splash of tabasco on a dish and actually enjoy it without suffering! i was hooked!

so i decided to grow 1 cayenne pepper in my garden just to see if i could handle it. i started with long red slim cayenne. that plant produced probably 70 to 85 peppers! i dried some and froze the rest. these babies were hot! but i was able to tolerate them tho my head was wet and sweat was breaking out on my face and neck. i ate more at one sitting and i was amazed that i was ok, no sores in my mouth and i loved the heat and flavor.

i then got cocky and looked for a hotter hot sauce. i bought habanero tabasco sauce and whewie that was hot but if i didn't over do it it was good. then i lost my mind and did not realize what i was getting into. i bought a bottle of dave's insanity sauce! i just couldn't handle it. so for about 2 or so years it sat in the fridge, it's rated at 180,000 SU and even today i have to use it carefully. this past winter i tried putting a drop on a salsa chip with salsa and i was able to do it but man it burned and thankfully the yogurt cooled things down.

i can handle some heat now as i've been eating hot peppers a few years but i still respect that insanity sauce, it is wicked hot. the sad thing is it is all burn but very little flavor, the taste is not all that great really kinda thick and nasty.

so this year i decided to up the ante and grow real hot peppers and see if i could handle them. i bought 3 not 1 long red slim cayenne plants which i knew i liked but they turned out to be long red thick cayenne - they were mislabeled and have about as much heat as ice cream! but the other 2 i bought were a fatalli and a scotch bonnet. i was certain that i had lost my mind and would have to give the fruits away, i mean i can't handle that heat. but i picked the 1st fatalli a couple of weeks ago and was careful cutting off just a sliver avoiding the pith and with yogurt and sour cream ready i ate that sliver raw with nothing else. NICE flavor! sort of like the insanity sauce for heat but a better fruitier flavor. the yogurt (whole not low fat) didn't really put out the fire but the sour cream did. i had some edy's coconut pineapple ice cream so i cut up the fatalli into small pieces and added the whole pepper (no pith or seeds) to a dish of that ice cream. it was excellent, great taste but not real hot just right. i ate a scotch bonnet a few days ago and it was hot but not too bad, again yogurt and sour cream at hand just in case.

so i decided to come back because maybe i'm ready for this site now and i have a problem to boot so i hope to get some guidance. look forwards to reading and learning!

Another time at sea we were raided by pirates and during a sword fight I lost my right hand, replaced now with a hook. One day while sailing through the Straits of Formosa some seagulls flew over and crapped in my eye as I looked up but thats not how I lost my eye. That was the first day with my new hook!

Tjg911, i'm glad you decided to come back. I remember back in the days when tabasco was a game stopper for me. You went along the smart path of working yourself up from the bottom, but I took the risk and jumped in head first (or mouth first) and tried the Hottest Sauce 2.0, before that I did eat fire sauce and tabasco but nothing more. I hope since your return that you learn as much as you can and good luck in your growing!

Gee, if ya get jock itch, you better use the other hand. Otherwise that hook could spell real trouble.
