If only it were a hot pepper

Yes, this is out there. I tend sometimes to stray down that corridor. Anyway, I wonder how much faster man would have fallen to sin in the garden of Eden if the forbidden fruit were a chili.

Don't ask what type, any type you want it to be. But just think, perfect plants perfect peppers and no pests. You know, the kind that Judy grows.

Just kidding, sorta.

Urm...

Isn't everything to do with the GoE fable, including snake, fruit, and 'sin,' supposed to be allegorical, rather than literal?

Something tells me they wouldn't eat the thing unless they already had something to atone for.
It was consuming the fruit that required the atonement.

No, Judy is no snake. reference was to growing perfect pods

fable? to each his own, and for that, he will be accountable.

So just to summarize, you believe in literal talking snakes that tempt people into sin with delicious produce, and that women are the root of all evil, bearing a fascinating resemblance to the Pandora myth?

I'm pretty ok with being "accountable" for not believing that, but I also respect your right to do so.
;)

That's what I mean. They wouldn't fall because eating a pepper is good penance, and they didn't sin before then, so it's not getting eaten.

Let me summarize it this way.

Fable - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fable

Wikipedia

Fable is a literary genre. A fable is a succinct fictional story, in prose or verse, that features animals, mythical creatures, plants, inanimate objects or forces of ...‎Fable (disambiguation)

I believe that is sufficient to remove Genesis from being categorized as a fable.

I had written a further response to Lucky Dog Hot Sauces reply and thought better of it and will address it as such.

No, not in literal terminalogy. God will supply understanding of the scriptures if you truly what it.

I think you miss the point.

If there were 2 (two) forbidden fruit. 1 an apple and 2 a hot chili, which would you eat first?

Oh, in that case, same time.

Maybe this should be in the hot button topics forum if that's going to be your approach?

Some people don't identify with a Christian deity (or any at all) so perhaps being tolerant of others who don't believe what you do would be a better approach than talking about accountability, as for those non-believers there is no such anticipation of that experience, nor afterlife for that matter. Nor is the bible interpreted as a literal tale of events regardless of chapter. A work of fiction - a fable or fairy tale.

Tolerance is a beautiful thing - I respect your right to worship in any way you see fit, and I expect you to respect my right to not believe in what you believe.

You know, the whole "judge not lest he be judged" thang.

I didn't start this topic to get into a theological discussion, or I would have started it in the hot button topics.
I just pondered how much sooner one(maybe a chili head ) would grab and consume a hot chili over a fruit of some sort. That's all.

That's a little confusing as the very nature of the topic is theological.

You posed a question about the garden of Eden - which is from the bible. Which is a theological doctrine.

How could this be anything but a theological discussion?

Yeah, maybe it should be moved. and if the mods see fit I have no issue with that.

Most who read this understood it for what it was and what it was intended.
If what I said is "fiction" and not within your belief system then why not just ignore it as I do when something I see, hear or read that doesn't apply to me.

its really that simple

Moving it would be silly as hell. Oops I mentioned hell.
Come on guys. This is ridiculous. In the hot sauce biz we can talk about the devil and hell but mention Adam and Eve and people get all up in arms. The post is lighthearted as if I asked you what pepper the devil would eat first. Answer or move along.

And in my response I was pretty light-hearted too - but approaching this as a literal subject as though the bible is a factual account of historic events is not.

I already said that I respect his right to believe whatever he wants. He seems to take issue with others not believing it. A little mutual respect would go a long way towards light-heartedness.

Just sayin
