baccatum Jamy = Peruviano Arancio?

I am currently selecting varieties for next year and I noticed that the baccatums Jamy (aka Jammy) and Peruviano Arancio seem to be essentially identical. On photos, they are indistinguishable, their heat is in the same range (5-6/10), they are both thick walled, both ripen from light green to orange, the flavor of both is described as (slightly) sweet, fruity with citrus, and both have the same size, habitus, and maturation times. Does anybody have first-hand experience with both?

Arancio is Italian for "orange", and is not a known word in Spanish (at least not in my dictionary).

The history of Jamy is explained on the Pepperfriends website. No Peru there, but read what it says after frutto... Somebody screwed up?

I grew Jamy in the past but had never heard of Peruviano Arancio until a few minutes ago. Googling images of this Arancio, I can't dinstinguish them from my Jamy. I purchased the seeds from semillas.de, if my memory serves me well.

As ayahastani said, "peruviano arancio" is an Italian name. It seems more likely to me that it is later than the selection of Dr. Mario Dadomo, because I see no reason why in Jamaica (or Peru) they should use an Italian name. Maybe, someone in Italy renamed it with this rather generic name without knowing the original "Jamy" name.
Also, in the Stuard catalog you also find "Jimy" which is a different phenotype (more similar to a Criolla sella pepper), in case it was useful to understand which chili pepper was of Jamaican origin (still unknown). If the peruviano arancio has the same shape as the jamy, that is a specific selection, it is likely to be later.

The Italians link Peruviano Arancio also to Stuard, and in their 2010 catalogue they are indeed listed as seperate varieties.

I wanted to upload the PDF of this catalogue but the forum website won't allow me (size issues). Click here for the Italian source, although I would have liked to have an additional copy here for the Archives.

Unfortunately the Stuard catalog was made up of 5 or 6 parts, the one in the link stops at the letter D.
I asked Lonewolf if the catalog backups are still available, so we can compare the two varieties 🙂

BTW, there are many varieties in that catalog that have a generic name, I would like to have more precise traceability. Maybe it was Stuard who gave the name "Peruviano arancio"? 🤔

Ok I received the full catalog 🤠 it's 40Mb; ayahastani, if you need it for archive purposes I can somehow share it in PM.

Here are photos and descriptions of the two varieties:

You can see that there are some differences in the structure of the plant and in the size of the fruits, although they are almost similar.

It seems that Peruviano arancio is a name given by Mario. It's a Stuard selection of varieties from Peru, therefore of different origin compared to Jamy (meaning: coming from a Jamaican source, not necessarily a Jamaican chili pepper).

We cannot exclude a similar origin, but for the moment they are considered two separate varieties. Perhaps an organoleptic comparison would help to highlight other differences. Personally, I have only grown Jamy.
