And it begins tonight.

Yea environmental factors have a lot to do with it. That's why the majority of the crosses that took for me was from pollen I had collected indoors on my butch T plant. Several times a week I would make rounds through the garden collecting pollen from all the flowers and then stored in the freezer. Seemed I could never get pollen from the ones I really wanted.

Looks like there's a preferred variety that gets a chance at 6 sprouts. Which one is that?
I will tell you in a while.  I might have a first to pop contest or something.  But only reason there is 6 is it is one of the varieties from my saved seeds and had like a 1000ish seeds to play with so was generous.  I will probably get rid of 4 or 5 of them.   As I pot up these I will probably ship some out.  Going to try to see if I can ship some plugs while they are still small in a SFRB.

And already the first signs of life.

What kind of soil are you using? That stuff looks good.Do you make a special mix?
Its nothing special.  I went to see what I had left as I though I over bought last year.  So I had a few open bags.  I just threw a few handfuls each of Planters Pride starting mix(cheap $2 from Menards),  some Ferry Morse(Equally Cheap Walmart), and some Burpee that is based on COIR.  Added a bit of vermiculite and a little bit of worm crap.  See how it does.  I try to keep it pretty simple with the dirt.  Once I pot up I will just use a potting soil.  I do mostly organic except that stage I like to get the ones that feed for 6 months so I don't have to keep feeding 300+ seedlings for 2 more months.  I used to get this stuff cheap at Menards that I really liked called Majestic Earth but they seem to have quit carrying it, so not sure what I will use to pot up with.

I don't even do a good soil mix. I just use the cheap pro mix from menards (like $13 a bale) Probably should start using a better soil mix once I can afford to pick some up.
The stuff I was using last year was $5.99 in a 2cu foot bag.  You used that Pro-Mix they sell I think?  I started to then when everything was going yellow as I wasn't feeded decided enough of that.  I was looking at their new cheap line of stuff with fertilizer in it, I think I got some for wife's flowers last year.  I just don't see much of a point to getting high dollar stuff when I don't want them to be too big until they get outside anyway.  Only think I see about having big plants at plantout is earlier pods, but at the end, my smaller plants are always as big or sometimes bigger than the big ones.   The ones I am starting now will be bigger, hopefully give me a few pods early, but most of mine this year do to quantity plans won't even get potted up to 3.5" but just the 36 deep cell insert.  They will be root bound probalby, but hopefully they will work themselves out of it.

I'm sure they will, I'm starting in 3" pots and finishing in them. I just planted a handful of seed to each pot and will transplant the extras that sprout instead of planting multiple pots with the same type like i did last year. That way i get better use out of my only heat mat.

You know me, keep it simple.  I have 2 lighting racks, both made with scrap wood.  One has 3 old shoplight fixtures T12s from back in the day, probably 2002.   Other I got last year they are t8s.  Cheap, but gets the job done.  I probably have about the most basic, simple and cheap setup of many on here.  No mylar, no tent, no extra heating other than the heat mat for starting them, no extra fan.  Its just shoplights sitting on a bar and the other ones will be sitting on a table.  Might look at a bigger set of shelves someday like 24 x 48, but for now this is it.

And your list is just.... WOW! Can´t wait to see pictures in August!

Yeah, if all goes well should be a sight.  Hopefully keep some better pictures this year.  I found last year I missed pics of a good amount of varieties.

I'm overwhelmed! And jealous. Your list of peppers is quite impressive. Best of harvest.

✔✔Thanks, check back in August/Sept, let me know if you want any pods, I will have far more than I can use or process if all goes as well as the past season.✔✔

Will be checking this summer. Please let us know what's ready, and when. Best of seasons for all this hard work.

When they are that small, its easy to unwrap them and shake them loose a little bit.  I think you'll be okay.  Good idea to get rid of extras like that.  I may have to steal that idea ;)

Very interested to see how things go with the soil and not potting up really big until plant out. You make a compelling argument, hope everything works out.
