juanitos 2019 grow log

Welcome to the JuanitosPeppers 2019 glog

Thanks to all the long time readers and people who followed last year. I hope to make this glog a little bit better!

I’ll try to do weekend update format with photos and captions. I’ll be happy to answer questions or discuss growing during the week too.

Last year was pretty successful.

Saved lots of seeds

I spent all winter break thinking about what varieties i wanted to grow. I want to keep a good balance of flavor, heat, color, species, cost, size. Looking to expand my seed stock so i’m growing a couple collections (brainstrain, ghost) also trying a couple wilds for fun, a few mild peppers for normal people, and the best medium peppers (moa, bahamian goat). Can follow along to see everything

I like doing bulk starting in medium(soilmix). It means i only plant the successful seeds, no volunteers or weak seedlings, no wasting extra seeds, no culling. Medium is a bit easier to manage as it will separate easier than a paper towel. Also you can leave them in the medium for a bit longer. Just keep them in a warm 75-85 temp range for a week or so and we’re ready to transplant into pots.

While those are resting got the growing space ready.
Made sure the led strips are still running from last year, had to repair a few

Cleaned up the trays and reservoir and ordered pots / trays, started putting soil in

More to come… Thanks for following!

I will miss your grow slabs this year, Jonathan. I thought
those were a very interesting way to grow. Certainly
successful judging by your results!

Good luck getting the garden prepped. Will be checking
out your cloth units for sure.

Man, those plants look fantastic! Orders closed for the season?

i'm done building orders but i'll probably post some special "left overs" in forum ads in may.

i'm keeping some in reserve in case there are problems.
like earlier this week i had an return to sender / undeliverable because the clients apartment people are dicks. :D

Thanks for the reply man. So do you normally take preorders before starting plants or how does it normally work? I will definitely be watching for any "leftovers."

Sounds like that guy needs to find a new apartment, I'd be pissed.

yeah i had it open for preorders for about 2 months on my site https://juanitospeppers.com/

here's the 3 year old coco. much thicker now but still has some structure after i broke up the roots with a spade for a bit.
mix in some fresh coco chunks or perlite or something to keep it fluffy and good to go.
of course the disease chances are much higher though =\

lots of roly poleys (like hundreds wtf) and a few snails and grubs hiding in the bags.

Alright where do I start? The pepper patch from last year is quite an amazing sight, I bet you did your fair share of military low crawling to harvesting all those! I've never seen or heard of anyone using your sprout pot-up method, that is really freaking cool man, I'm gonna use that! Brisket... Money. Photography is on point. I wish I knew you sold plants earlier, I would have definitely bought some, they're beautiful. I'll be keeping an eye out next year for sure. Nice work on all accounts! I'll be following

Which I will be watching for, since I never got an order in while you had it open.  My bad! :mope:

one thing i didn't think about was that the irrigation lines are now too short to reach up to the pots.
so i had to order some new 1/4 in line and replace all the lines. that took a while.

overall shot of setup

brought some plants over

Your garden looks amazing.  I'm trying the grow bags this year and planning a set up just like that.  Good luck with everything!

I don't know if this belong here, but here goes:
I tasted my first Biquinho pepper, from the seeds I ordered from your store.

What delicious little gems those peppers are! Barely any heat, but really sweet and juicy. The smell gave me flashbacks from some superhot chinenses, but I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted it. As always, great plants from your seeds, thanks!

Nice! it is so hard to describe the biquinho heat to people. it's like a faint memory. not completely heatless like a bell pepper. but it's not hot either.

trying to get all the plant orders shipped this week.

only spent like 10 mins on my peppers this week, just making sure everything is still alive n chugging.

one of my plant failed completely, habanada just withered and died. so i have to replant another.

I guess the unattractive green color is why most people go with the black fabric pots.
