Just ordered from NMSU

Had a good laugh with one of the young ladies at NMSU while ordering some seeds.

I put in a plug for "The Hot Pepper" while I was talking to her, so she'll probably check out the group.

(Damn, I'm getting old. I didn't even ask her what her name is...)

Well, if you show up here, NMSU pepper lady, HI THERE AGAIN!

Anyway, here's what I've ordered from them:

30 Bhut Jolokia seeds
60 Omni Color seeds
60 Aji Limon seeds
60 Red Caribbean Hab seeds

10 of each type of seed is going to my sister in Maryland. She had an Orange Hab this year in her garden that went nuts. They harvested 3 gallons of peppers off the one plant. I hope they do as well with the others I'm sending.

Congrats on your order. I ordered from them for the first time a month ago (or so) and I too had a good laugh, they are great people there. I had a real good experience and highly recommend them to anyone.

Well that's cool man. What did you order? Have you started them yet or are you going to wait until spring?

I ordered: Bhut Jolokia, Red Caribbean and Aji Limon. I'm planning on starting them about mid-late December.
That's too weird man. You ordered the same ones I did. I got the omi color ones to plant along my fence-line in front of the house. I thought it would be a cool looking border if they grow ok there.

Does anyone here know how hot the omi-color peppers are?

She even taught me the correct pronunciation for the Jolokia and Aji. It was an all around great experience and I've been thinking of placing another order with them for some milder peppers.

I've bought from NMSU several times - a few books, numerous bhut jolokia seeds, big jims, mesilla, I even got one of their caps and a t-shirt

they have been the best to deal with and I highly recommend them

and as far as germination rates go - out of my last batch of bhuts I had 100% from 20 seeds set down

I'm that pleased with their service and quality of product that next time I place an order I'll also pay for membership. I can't say enough good things about them. plus, I'm a bit of a fan of the works of Paul Bosland.

agree on everything said about NMSU and the CPI...they are great people and produce great products...I love reading their research papers on growing peppers too....

a couple of good books they sell which I quite like and use regularly are:

Garden Pests & Diseases by Sunset Books;
Pepper Diseases: A Field Guide;
Compendium of Pepper Diseases by PW Bosland and EJ Votava; and,
Peppers: Vegetable And Spice Capsicums by numerous contributors

the first three have great pics and info, between the three of them I get all the stuff I need on garden/pepper nasties. the fourth one is great reading and covers pretty much anything you would possibly want to know about, and I quote, "the plant's history, genetics, composition, production, harvesting and related diseases and pests". the last two books are very highly recommended to all chileheads.

sounds like some good reading for the "down" months ahead...I may just have to get them...thanks for the tip CM...

I've never grown them, but I heard they are hot, not super hot, of course, but not exactly mild either. They are also said to have a great taste, they are definitely more than just am ornamental pepper.

Outstanding! I have an 8' privacy fence with about 5' of space in front of it. I'm going to plant them along that fence-line. It should look good and also provide me with a bunch of medium range peppers of different colors to use in salads and pickling.

Thanks man!
