lighting LED Shop Light 135 Watts (Ghetto Build)

I have 4100k bulbs in the T5 so its not the same. Its probably close, I would need some kind of meter though.

The light just went back into protection, guess I need the bigger psu on there. I think this one is 150 watts, didn't think I would max it out. I need to go buy one of those kill-a-watt things so I can see what these lights actually use. I was tired of working on this light a year ago, and still not done lol
 
if it's just on the edge of protection mode, maybe all it needs is slightly better cooling? idk if you can position the psu a little better or something. e.g. maybe off and away from a carpet, in the path of your fan if you have one running? i wonder if something small could mean the difference between running and not running?
 
Maybe. I think I have a 175w and a 225w laying around so I will probably just switch it out. I should have just bought shop lights instead of building this thing anyway, strips seem cheap until you factor in labor, wire, solder and something to mount them on. Not to mention if you didnt already have a psu

The shop lights seem really bright, I would like to check the actual watts, and the ppfd or something on these lights.
 
I was looking at those. They have 3 different wattages. 154 for the 225 watt.

A little out of my price range though.
 
My guess is that you will hook that up to your psu and the lights will blow. The driver is a constant current device so limits the total power going to the LEDS where the psu is only limited by its capacity.

I think the 175w one is doing the job. People were bridging them together I think too.

I have 2 more, thought about hooking them together in series and getting some 24v strips, I'm not sure yet.

I am doing a ghetto build.
 
I had a buddy who does sheet metal work bend up a piece of .090 aluminum, to which I mounted some reflectors I scavenged from some old highbay fixtures, some T5 lamp sockets, and the ballasts. I am controlling each ballast individually with a timer.

I still need to cleanup the wiring; I ordered some expandable PET to sleeve the wires.

regarding quantum boards (QBs)...
 
i believe the term 'quantum' specifically refers to a style of LED grow light popularized by HLG, and the term was coined by them. it consists of a PCB densely populated with surface mount LEDs as an alternative to COBs or LED strips. the PCB features high quality white reflective soldermask and might have an integrated aluminum plane for heat dissipation (making heatsinks sometimes unnecessary if you run them relatively soft).
 
to HLG's chagrin, there are tons of QB clones available on alibaba/aliexpress. they might not use as highly spec'd/binned diodes, and the construction (including the soldermask) might not be as elite, but they're way cheaper. if i ever get QBs, they'll probably be clones. but idk what to get and from which seller. it's a lot of info to take in, sigh.
