Lodge Cast Iron Hibachi

I use hibachi's all the time at the beach, camping, picnics deep sea fishing etc. They are great when you want to prepare a meal for a couple of people quick and easy, but I really use them because I can get a VERY hot surface to create an amazing sear. For this reason I only use ceramic and believe it or not I make my own by throwing clay on a wheel. I usually only make them about 6" wide and 12" high and usually pickup a custom grill from these guys. http://www.huntingdoncocustoms.com/prosekegr.html

Cast iron is great for LONG cooks like chili or stew because it's stable and retains heat well, but I because I use mine for searing meat like steak and tuna quickly I prefer ceramic. Plus they weigh a lot less.

I'll try and post a few pics of my setup.

Thanks for the feedback. I love cooking on cast iron too, and I like having adjustable grill height and also conserve some charcoal. LGHT, I can't wait to see your setup. Thanks for the link too. I like the grill/griddle combo for the weber.

Anyone around today? I'm about to give this bad boy a burn in and then throw something on. Any suggestions? It's probably too hot for wings so I'm thinking steak, maybe a NY strip or two.

This thing gets hot! I went with fajitas. They were simple and tasty. I used carne asada the butcher had marinating, white onion, orange bell, flour tortillas, then some Tapatio, lemon juice and olive oil. The carne asada stuck a bit. It fits right in the middle of my big BBQ so I don't need a table or cover outside. I just might make eggs and bacon on it tomorrow.

zanderspice, that looks like a sweet little set-up. The fajitas look yummy and I can see the hibachi working for lots of little 1-2 person type meals. Hope you keep posting as you use it for different things.
