Looks like my son is deploying again

Absolutely Tony. I have never seen any branch of the military that cares more for each other than Marines.
This will be his first deployment as a POG as well.
He used to laugh at them at Camp Pendleton when he was an 0341 going through SOI and now he is one. ;)
bet he likes pog life better than infantry life!

Yes I think he does Tony. They got word now that they won't be deploying until Jan. 2013 at the earliest and he may be able to become a recruiter by then and hopefully move close to home.

Didn't it used to be that a soldier would never be deployed overseas for more than one tour?

I remember reading about that a while ago, that back in WW2 a soldier was guaranteed to not be sent back overseas once he had completed one tour. Something about the psychological strain of combat and readjusting to civilain socety. Then over time it was increased and increased, to where today some soldiers are on their 9th or 10th tour of Afghanistan or perviously Iraq. And the mirror in the increase of suicides and crimes commited by returned soldiers.

Best of luck to your son. i spent 12 months in Afghanistan between 2008-2009 and know what its like over their. i wish you and your family the best. " God loves the infantry"

Not sure about that one but my son is not a soldier, he is a Marine. There is a difference. :P
