Mattys first ever Glog "Into the fire" 2019 season

Hello everyone and thanks for looking at my "Into the Fire" Glog!!

So I started my gardening hobby in my early 20's about 16 years ago now, and though I have played around with many types of flowers/vegis  tomato's is what most of my energy was put into. I loved alll the different colors and types that could be grown which really reminds me of all the exciting Chilli variety's that exist today. A couple seasons ago while looking for some info on a particular type of sweet pepper I stumbled onto a few videos of some people eating super hots (Ghost,Reapers ect..).  After looking into it a little more I figured this would be a very interesting thing to grow even just as a novelty since really no one in my area grows much if anything at all.

Last Winter I went and bought some seeds from Ebay..one was a mixed bag Ghost/Reaper/Scorpion...another was the Peter Pepper and the third was some type of Thai i believe. Only the Thai ended up growing true to type and the other 2 was a Cayenne and Ornamental. I was pretty disappointed when they did finally start putting out pods. It was around that time I started looking for a group or forum dedicated to Chillis, and luck would have it I found THP and all of you fantastic peoples.

Anyways with the boring back story outta the way I really planned ahead for this years grow....I built a 6'Hx6'Lx2'D grow box (not exact mesurments) which has 3 shelves and the middle one able to come out if I wnated to grow larger plants from the bottom tier. I went overkill on seed types making 3 decent size buys, 2 of which were 30+ from Garth at TexasHotPeppers and a smaller one from a fella in Arz.

I do not plan to grow all of these as my wife would kill me, but 20 or so might not be so bad.

So would like to see some favorites and suggestions from the fine people here at THP so I can kinda get it down to a much much smaller grow list. Will also get some pics up shortly here of my grow box which still has one more shelf I need to wire up just waiting on a few more strip lights to arrive in the mail, but will still give an idea of what it will all look like when its done.

In final: This is a new hobby for me within the hobby I already enjoy...I am going to try some new things (new for me) and even the much earlier starts then normal will be interesting to see how it all comes out at the end.  I look forward to the input from the community and keeping this glog updated as much as I can.

Here is too success in 2019!!

I'd like to see her take on that bottom brick. Lol. And I really don't care if she succeeds or not.

I like the "kick in the knee...bone out the back" scene.

Did that storm go around you, Matt? Or is it not there yet?

My wife woke me up to watch that video last night out of a dead sleep, she seemed to be much more amazed then me and was in tears laughing about it.

And I had ment to reply on your thread Adam, but I am actually living North West of you so was safe far as that particular system went. Friends and family were not so lucky though and got slammed pretty hard yesterday, they already had major flooding issues in the area as it was and that really compounded the problem which is to be expected.

We have very few flooding issues where we currently reside, is literally thousands of lakes and rivers that catch most of the overflow from the heavy rains or spring melting. The exception to that is right in town its self, where houses are build on or into the clay which doesn't do the greatest job at either soaking or letting the water filter down, needless to say the basements are much like the description of yours and taking on a good amount of water the past couple weeks. Still I doubt it is as bad as what you guys are going through right now.

I truly feel awful for you and all others who have to deal with the constant water damage every year and all the issues that come with it like mold and what not if not dealt with.

If Neil would stop sending us his Alberta snow storms the past week it might actually warm up around here, though we have only gotten the tail end of it, but more then enough to keep the temps barely above freezing.

Edit - (Picture of a duck) lol that was for you Eccoli and Red.....I still can't find one btw I will have to copy and paste or something

Double Edit -

Hopefully this is the last shot of the smaller plants before they get moved outside....Most are now easily 18-24inches + in height and have started to poof out alot more since they have more room to spread with the 'Big' stuff moved to the greenhouse.

Not one for beating my own drum, but am really proud of some of the plants I have grown. Besides some small hicups, they have had very little issue and really could not be more pleased with how the early start has turned out so far. Now if I can make it pay off when they hit the real growing season will really make it all the more worth while.

I dunno know about the boob chick...she kinda scares me. What if, in the middle of the night and she's mad atcha....and wham! KO'ed by the boob! (LB<-- )

But those plants are saaweet! Just don't hurry them out into the frozen stuff buddy!

Haha, very nice, but wouldn't a swan be more appropriate than a duck for your glog Matt?   He does look a-bhut ready to fight though...

Matt, your grow has been off the hook since the start. Great work so far, and I'm counting on a wild ride the rest of the way.  Would be a different THP without your glog.

Couldn't agree more - epic efforts + an entertaining read, keep it up Matty, we're rooting for you!

  Beautiful plants Matt! Really hoping the weather turns for you soon. Loved all the animal stories everyone has posted. I have a question for you then since you have so much wildlife (would love some pics btw!) Do you have any issues with any of them messing with your garden? A big reason my wife and I left the city was for the wildlife, big animal lovers here. We hung a good 16 bird and hummingbird feeders when we first moved in and to our surprise it took a good 6 months before anything really started showing up. These days our yard needs some air traffic controllers on the clock there's so much action, I swear we changed the migratory path of a good 40 species in 2 years time lol. My neighbors security camera by his front gate has a 3 foot trip on it, caught a big ol cougar on video about a month ago about a 1000 ft away from my house. Pretty crazy! We've been told we have bears in the area, have yet to see one though I'm assuming its from the miles and miles of huckleberries we have all throughout. Deer, opossums, coons, cascade boas, gardener snakes, skunks and lots of birds of prey around our area. Also my wife has always wanted an emu.... Not happenin!

If you have bears, then when/if you get bees, put them on the roof of  building, or plan for an electrified fence, and the bears walking through it anyway.  Bears really like the bee grubs, not the honey as is the common misconception.  Bees are a lot more work than people think.  Skunks like eating bees as well.

edited to correct word usage.  But and Put are not interchangeable.  Kinda like spark plugs and rectal thermometers are not interchangeable. I also misspelled skunks.

Plants look good Matt. I chose to limit fertilizing as I do not have the space to up pot. Your plants are definitely robust and ready to flower. The mini green house I set up is still to cool at night for me to bring the plants out for at least another week. Have you been able to bring your plants out yet?

Heya Zipper!!

yeha I have half of them out in the greenhouse and the other half inside right now...I have been running a heater though at nights or the past week during the day with miserable day time highs and snow again. Couple more days of cooler weather tomorrow and Monday but looks like low to mid teens for the rest of the week.

I did the same and went abit slower on the ferts, was also a tad concerened aboot over feeding so laid off for 2-3 weeks and gave them a shot before I took that update pic you were just looking at.

Hope all is well with you man, and it won't be long for either of us to hit the real dirt which is super exciting.

Been abit slow on my replys the past few days folks, been dealing with a leaky roof and its pretty bad. Pulled out some cabinets and shelves that had mold behind them along the baseboards. At first thought maybe it was the plants but found several water trails from the windows and a couple other spots, and the roof is in terrible shape so its coming down between the walls and out the bottom. I HATE mold with a passion and wondering if perhaps it has been a reason why I have been getting sick so much this past year, my son as well , since we found a really bad spot in his room.

Started at the bottom and scrolled up to find the pictures everyone is raving about. Yep, +1 on the rave.

Hope you get the leaky roof taken care of. I'm still dealing with damage from a leaky roof ten years ago. (Harvested mushrooms growing out of the wall once upon a time.) But at least I have a sound roof now.
