Yes every year. It should kill the aphids eggs in the soil. Or you can bake your soil in the oven.

Always had a terrible problem with aphids, baking in the oven even sounds better! Thanks!

I do it with my homemade compost that goes into my germination and seedling mix to kill fungi.
Really works great .

The beneficial bacteria is more a long term thing to develop and help the soil .
Short term , no problem .

Microwave, oven and fire are about the only organic way to bring home made potting soil indoors without bringing the bugs in with it.  Made that mistake once.  Today, I dont even want to winter over for fear of what I might bring inside.

I've tried it. The plants did not thrive in the "cooked" soil.
