Sent baby girl to school with Walmart shoes cause that is what we can afford. Classic look, canvas sides, huge wide pink laces. Gym coach took points away and told her she can't wear those shoes. Claimed they were not tennis shoes. Later, after wife argued they are tennis shoes he argued the tread is horrible, so they are dangerous. He never looked at the tread.
Wife complained to principle. Principle said it is the gym teacher's decision and he says they are too dangerous. Nothing she could do about it. Wife went nuts on internet. Posting pictures of the shoes, asking if people thought they were tennis shoes. Relative, raised poor, sent us a gift certificate and the kids picked out their million dollar shoes.
Daughter picked out Converse which looked almost identical to her Walmart tennis shoes. Oh now those were fine, they have the brand printed on the side. I think she wanted to rub it in. My daughter is so cool.
Thing is, all this bs hurt her. Teacher pulled this in class in front of other kids. He didn't call her trailer park trash, but that is what he was doing. This isn't a rich school, it is a poor rural school that tries to pretend it is rich. So although the kids try to pretend they are all uppidy, that teacher was hurting a lot more than just my daughter. Nobody seemed to care about his insane classism.
